Dolphins LB Bradley Chubb Out For First 4 Games On PUP List

Miami Dolphins

All the more reason for Miami Dolphins fans to have patience as the season kicks off and they have to wait a little bit longer before All-Pro edge rusher Bradley Chubb returns to the field. Chubb has been placed on the Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) list, so Miami’s first four games will be without their star edge rusher, Head Coach Mike McDaniel confirmed.

This is a huge loss for the Miami team. Chubb, 28, had a great season last year, up until he got hurt. He would register 11 sacks, six forced fumbles, and 11 tackles for loss up to that point, to just mention his work on the stat sheet. That was clipped with a torn ACL during Week 17 against the Baltimore Ravens. The PUP list should be saved for those players who are still unable to return to play following an injury.

Chubb’s Recovery Process

Still recovering from an ACL injury, Chubb is expected to be on the long list because he is not full-go yet. Thus, the Dolphins’ medical and coaching staff are being doubly cautious while bringing him back to strength. Listing him on PUP: though he is showing improvement, he is still some way off from being able to join the team.

With Chubb down, first-round pick Chop Robinson is going to have to rise to the occasion and fill the shoes. More playing time for Robinson is going to be essential if Miami hopes to keep its defense as stout with Chubb down.

Other Players On The PUP List

Chubb won’t be the only Dolphin opening the season on the PUP list. Starter Isaiah Wynn on the offensive line and linebacker Cam Goode will be in that group, too. Wynn needs time to get over a quad issue that saw him land on Injured Reserve a season ago. Goode has a knee injury deemed to require an indefinite period for recovery, and as a result, he’s ineligible to come off the PUP list now that he’s been placed on it to open the season.

They will have to adjust their game plans as they begin the season without some pivotal players. The absence of Chubb, in particular, holds great significance, for this is a player who brought vigor to the defensive line. Adjustments by the coaching staff will be necessary, and other players will be called upon.

Dolphins Face Season Start With Major Injuries

Nevertheless, the Dolphins are in very good spirits concerning the season ahead. After all, they boast a good roster and the ability to adjust, so they will surely be looking at starting the season in top phenomena. Chubb and other big stars will be missed, but there is hope from this team that they can still go big.

That sets them up for an early-season date with the challenges that are Bradley Chubb, Isaiah Wynn, and Cam Goode, all of whom were placed on the PUP list. It’s going to test the depth of the team, but that sometimes presents an opportunity for another player to shine. Fans will fixate on Chubb, but at that moment, the team will be hell-bent on doing what’s best for the situation.
