The New York Giants had one of its worst seasons ever in 2024. The main reason for concern was the QB spot. The Giants have had no success since Eli Manning was under center. Fans of the Giants are forced to bask in the team’s glory days. With the sup par performance last season fans were flying planes over the stadium during games begging for a change to take place. What has happened since? Let’s dive into the facts.
New York Giants Make a QB Change
The Giants had to make finding a quarterback priority No. 1 this offseason. The question is which way would they go. The Giants had been tied to finding their QB1 in the 2025 NFL Draft. The Giants hold the No. 3 overall pick. In most mock drafts the team is taking Shedeur Sanders. Now that has all changed with the team taking the veteran route signing 10-time Pro-Bowler Russell Wilson to a 1-year deal worth $21 million. Wilson is coming off a mediocre season for the Pittsburgh Steelers.
The team lost wildcard weekend in the Playoffs. I really understand why fans were flying planes over the stadium after this signing. I mean Wilson was a great quarterback but signing him to a one-year deal was a mistake on all sorts of levels. The first is Sanders will not play in New York with this signing. Deion Sanders will definitely pull an Archie Manning and not let his son sit behind a washed-up veteran to only be thrown in week 5 after the Wilson experiment fails. Shedeur said it himself. “Don’t draft me if you don’t wanna change the culture.”
Final Thoughts
This signing is like putting a band-aid over a bullet wound. It is not going to work. The best decision the front office could have made was to sign Jameis Winston to be the backup like they did and draft Sanders to be the quarterback for the next 10 years. Now they have lost that opportunity.
