Devin Carter, Providence Friars standout and Big East player of the year will declare for the 2024 NBA Draft. He will forgo his senior year and move on to the next chapter of his basketball journey. In speaking with 12 Sports, Carter said, “It was really difficult.” I feel like, at this point in my life career, that it was the best decision.”

The Providence Friars guard posted on social media to express his gratitude and appreciation for Friartown. “After a lot of reflection and discussions with those closest to me, I’ve reached a decision that marks both an end and a beginning.” Devin Carter wrote, “I will be forgoing my senior year at Providence College to enter the 2024 NBA Draft.
Devin Carter also said this was not a goodbye despite the end of his time with Providence. “It’s just a new chapter in this incredible journey from God. I am thrilled about what lies ahead and am committed to making all of you proud as I take this next step, ” Carter said. The Providence standout has an impressive junior season, being Big East Player of The Year and leading Providence to a Big East tournament run.
Carter scored nearly 20 points per game and 8.7 rebounds per game. For his last season, he was 75% from the free throw line and played 33 games. Before playing for the Friars, Devin Carter spent 2021-2022 with the South Carolina Gamecocks. Additionally, he added 58 steals and 32 blocks for the Providence Friars.
Devin Carter’s Last Providence Friars Seasons
The Miami native led the Providence Friars to a 21-14 overall mark and a spot in the conference tournament semifinals. However, Devin Carter sat out in an NIT loss against Boston College due to a sprained ankle and some other nagging injuries. The Friars lost to Boston College 62-57 at Amica Mutual Pavilion.
In his first two seasons with the Gamecocks and the Friars, Devin Carter was just 29.3% from the 3-point line. Last year, he rose the percentage to 37.7% with 223 attempts, doubling the attempts from 2022-23. Carter improved his defensive rebounding from 3.7 to 7.7, showing his athleticism.
Devin Carter’s father, Anthony, is an assistant coach with the Memphis Grizzlies. He played guard for the NBA for a decade and retired from the league at the conclusion of the 2011-12 season. His personal and professional background could bode well for Devin Carter as he meets with scouts and executives.
The 2024 NBA Draft will begin on June 26, 2024, at Barclays Center in Brooklyn. The Providence Friars product and others hope to hear there names early during that evening as they move on to the next stage in their careers.
