Detroit Lions Winners and Losers from Week 6

Detroit Lions

The Detroit Lions crushed the Cowboys 47-9 in America’s Game of the Week at Dallas. The Lions showed they have the best offense in the NFL, while also putting up an outstanding performance on defense. Dak Prescott turned the ball over twice and was unable to establish a connection with CeeDee Lamb. Even though there are an endless number of winners in this game, a few losers stood out.

Winners for the Detroit Lions

Aaron Glenn

Defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn was maybe the biggest winner of the day. With only 9 points allowed and 5 turnovers produced, the Detroit Lions defense was outstanding. Dak Prescott was only able to throw for 178 yards and no touchdowns thanks to the excellent work of the secondary. The defensive line performed admirably as well, applying constant pressure on Prescott and sacking him 4 times.

Aaron Glenn has shown his ability to mentor defensive players to play well and establish their presence on the field. Although Aidan Hutchinson’s loss will be felt, Aaron Glenn will find other ways to put pressure on the quarterback and ensure that this defense doesn’t miss a beat.

Tim Patrick

Tim Patrick was also a huge winner yesterday. Patrick produced 68 yards on 3 receptions for an excellent performance. Since joining the team, Patrick immediately established a connection with Jared Goff and demonstrated his ability to produce as a wide receiver 3. Patrick had his best game as a Lion, even managing a score a touchdown, although it was waved back due to a penalty. It is very important to have a dependable wide receiver 3, and Patrick has been just that.

Brian Branch and Kerby Joseph

The Detroit Lions safety duo is again another big winner. Brian Branch and Kerby Joseph have been exceptional this season, and yesterday was no exception. Branch caused three turnovers, picking off Dak Prescott twice, and forced a fumble. Along with being all over the field, he made crucial tackles and prevented anyone from getting by him.

With this interception, Kerby Joseph has now recorded one in every game this season except one. Joseph has been all over the field this year and is now tied for the league lead in interceptions. The Lions’ safety duo is demonstrating why they are among the best in the league by causing several turnovers and being a threat to throw against.

Defensive Line

It’s not so much about the Detroit Lions’ defense line’s performance as it is about the loss of Aidan Hutchinson. Hutchinson will miss the whole season after breaking his tibia early in the third quarter.

Leading the NFL in sacks, quarterback hits, quarterback pressures, and pass rush win percentage, he has been undoubtedly the best defensive player in the league this season and has been a major contributor to the Lions’ defensive success. To replace him, they are likely going to need to seek outside the team via trade or free agency, but DJ Reader and Alim McNeill will also need to step up and assist in closing the gap. The loss of Hutchinson stings, but the Detroit Lions should still be able to have a strong defense this season.

Graham Glasgow

The other loser from this weekend is Graham Glasgow. He had his worst game of the year, allowing 3 pressures, along with allowing his first sack of the year. He was also having trouble creating gaps in the run game. This was his worst game of the year, and he will need to improve, especially while facing a potent Minnesota pass rush the following week. Glasgow has performed well for the Detroit Lions this season, so he will undoubtedly recover from this.
