The Detroit Lions host the dreaded Tennessee Titans on Sunday. After a huge win in Minnesota, the Lions come in at 5-1 and a double-digit favorite against the Titans. Tennessee is an AFC South worst 1-5 and days removed from dealing their best offensive weapon, Deandre Hopkins to the Kansas City Chiefs. Detroit should be able to easily take care of business against the struggling Titans, but could this be the perfect trap game for the Lions?
Detroit Lions Look To Continue Win Streak
The Detroit Lions are entering Week 8 on an impressive five-game winning streak that includes a blowout win in Dallas and a huge win versus NFC North rival the Minnesota Vikings. Tennessee comes into town on a two-game losing streak and their first game without All-Pro Wide Receiver DeAndre Hopkins. Hopkins was traded to the Kansas City Chiefs this past week for draft capital. This is the Lions’ biggest spread as far as being a favorite so far this season. The Lions are also coming off an emotional win against the Minnesota Vikings that landed Detroit the top spot in the NFC.
Detroit Lions’ receiver Jameson Williams will not be participating this week or next as he is serving a two-game suspension after failing the NFL’s illegal substance policy. Jamo has been a special weapon for the Lions offense this season. The suspension shouldn’t affect the team too much this week. Expect Running Back Jahmyr Gibbs to get more involved with the passing game. Gibbs can be a serious receiving threat. Amon-Ra St. Brown, Sam LaPorta, and Tim Patrick should be able to carry the load in the passing game. Remember the Lions also have Jared “Perfect Game” Goff as well.
Lions Defense vs. Tennessee
The Tennessee Titans have benched their starting Quarterback, Will Levis, and will be starting former Steelers Quarterback Mason Rudolph. Rudolph will be playing in his third game with the Titans this season. The Detroit Lions defense will look to get after Rudolph and try to force some turnovers in the process.
Defensive Backs Brian Branch and Kerby Joseph will be continuing their great seasons. The question is will the Lions defensive line be able to perform like last week without Aidan Hutchinson? The Lions’ defense was able to get four sacks on Quarterback Sam Darnold. The team has this week and next to prove themselves for the “next man up” mentality before the November 5 trade deadline.
Final Thoughts
This is the perfect trap game for the Detroit Lions with the Green Bay Packers lurking next week. Luckily for the Lions, Dan Campbell usually has his team prepared for battle and the Titans struggle. After getting rid of arguably their best player, the Titans should be no match for the Lions. Look for the Lions to run the ball down their throats and for this game to possibly get ugly quickly.
