The 7-1 Detroit Lions—yes, you heard right—travel to Houston to take on the 6-3 Texans in week 10. The Lions have had their best start since 1956 after their win against the Packers in Green Bay. Detroit is on a six-game winning streak after falling to the Tampa Bay Bucs in Week 2. Since then, the Detroit Lions have been on a dominant tear through the league. The question is, how long will the streak last and is there a team that can beat these gritty Lions?
Detroit Lions Keep on Rolling
The Detroit Lions went on the road to Green Bay in Week 9, a place that has haunted them for years. Just like a classic “Scooby Doo” episode, the Lions were able to unmask the Packers to reveal that the big bad monster that was once so dominant vs. Detroit is now a thing of the past. Whether it’s the offense clicking on all cylinders, the defense stepping up, or special teams making a big play, the Detroit Lions are getting it done in every facet of the game.
Detroit is sitting pretty on top of the NFC North defeating the Vikings and Packers on the road, so far this year. The Lions lead the league in Points Per Game (32.3), tied with the biggest turnover differential (+11), and top-5 in Points Allowed Per Game (18.5).
Detroit Lions wide receiver Jameson Williams will return after serving a two-game suspension for illegal substances. The Lions’ offense sure didn’t seem to miss the deep threat the last two weeks, but they will be happy to have Jamo back on the field.
Jared Goff has hooked up with Amon-Ra St. Brown on 30 straight targets. Yes, you read that correctly! Jared Goff has not thrown an incomplete pass to “The Sun God” in 30 attempts. These two have been clicking all season and continue to be one of the NFL’s best duos. Goff has had an unbelievable five-game stretch with a completion percentage of over 84%!
Detroit Lions Travel to Houston
The Detroit Lions are traveling to Houston for a Sunday Night Football primetime matchup against C.J. Stroud and the Texans. The Lions will be playing without Left Tackle Taylor Decker for the first time this season. For any other team, losing their Left Tackle could be devastating, and not saying that Decker won’t be missed, but with Detroit having the best offensive line in football, the blow may not hit as hard.
The Lions have faced adversity all year, with superstar Aidan Hutchinson and Marcus Davenport being on the injury reserved. Newly acquired Za’Darius Smith is still questionable for Sunday’s game. Even if Smith is active, one would think that his playing time would be limited. Even with a banged-up roster, Dan Campbell has his Detroit Lions ready for every game and scenario. Look for the Lions to begin the game pounding the rock with David “Knuckles” Montgomery.
“Knuckles” has been wearing defenses down on opening drives all season. Then when the defense has had enough, Montgomery hits the “hot tag” to his partner Jahmyr “Sonic” Gibbs. Lions fans are getting quite used to having “Sonic” hit on a big play or two with his explosive speed and elusiveness.
Adding a fresh Jameson Williams to stretch the field, St. Brown and Sam Laporta to fill the middle, the Lions have one of the scariest offenses in the league. However, Houston is no slouch. The Texans have a good offense and a solid defense, but is Detroit just too much?
The Lion’s offense embodies the city of Detroit so well, similar to a well-oiled machine. The Defense is now led by two young, hungry ball hawks, Kerby Joseph and Brian Branch. Look for these two studs to be around the ball all night.
Final Thoughts
The Detroit Lions are absolutely rolling through the NFL competition right now. Not only are they 7-1 on the season, but they are 7-1 against the spread. They are being accused of trying to embarrass teams, and why not embarrass them? The Lions have been the laughingstock of American sports for decades.
It’s Detroit’s time to shine. They are arguably the best team in football, and it may not even be close. Look for Detroit to go on the road and take care of business against the Houston Texans. If you’re a gambling man, take the Lions to cover. This team could possibly end up 16-1. It is the NFL, so it seems unlikely, but the way these boys show up and play for each other and their coach is something Lions fans have never seen before! Don’t be surprised to hear “Jared Goff” chants throughout NRG Stadium!
