Detroit Lions vs Seattle Seahawks Monday Night Football Week 4 Preview

detroit lions

The Detroit Lions will host the undefeated Seattle Seahawks on Monday night. The Lions will look to end their 5 game losing streak against the Seahawks including 3 games in the last 3 seasons. The Seahawks have had the Lions number in the past and Detroit looks to turn around their misfortune against the Hawks. The Lions are currently a 3.5-point favorite for Monday’s game and is expected to be a battle of two playoff hopefuls.

Detroit Lions Strengths

The Detroit Lions were able to look into the mirror in week 3 against the Arizona Cardinals and get back to their team identity. This year’s version of the Lions relies heavily on the run game (ranking 4th in rush yards per game), behind their strong offensive line and running back duo of Jahmyr Gibbs and David Montgomery. The Lions’ dynamic duo in the backfield helped the team reach over 200 yards on the ground against the Cards. This was coming off of a game where Jared Goff threw 55 attempts in a disappointing Bucs team at home in week 2.

Detroit also has a surprisingly good and much-improved defense. The defense has allowed only 17.6 points per game. The Detroit Lions rush defense also ranks 4th in the NFL in opponent rush yards per game, allowing less than 77 yards per game. Seahawks star running back, former Michigan State Spartan standout, Kenneth Walker was limited in practice Friday. Walker suffered an oblique injury in Week 1 and could possibly return to action in a limited role on Monday. This could play a significant part in the game outcome.

Detroit Lions Take On Undefeated Seattle

Dan Campbell is well aware that his Detroit Lions are 0-3 against Seattle the last 3 seasons. The Lions’ young defensive backs will have their hands full against the receiving trio of Metcalf, Lockett, and Smith-Njigba. Lions’ star defensive end, Aiden Hutchinson should be able to help the young corners out by pressuring quarterback Geno Smith. Hutch currently leads the league in sacks with 6.5 and is not looking to slow down anytime soon.

The Detroit Lions signed veteran receiver Allen Robinson this past week to their active roster. Look for Offensive Coordinator, Ben Johnson to scheme Robinson and Amon-ra St. Brown open in the middle of the field. Opposing teams are starting to notice and plan for the “freakish” speed of Jameson Williams.

This should open up plenty of space for Robinson and St. Brown to get some targets. Even with all the weapons for Jared Goff, the main focus should be to pound the rock with Montgomery and Gibbs. The Lions will be playing without center, Frank Ragnow, which could be a significant blow. Ragnow is one of the best centers in the league and is a pivotal part of the Detroit Lions’ dominant offensive line.

Final Thoughts

Week 4 should be interesting for the Detroit Lions. The Lions will be hosting another playoff hopeful, as the Seattle Seahawks come to town. Seattle has been the Lions’ “Kryptonite” the past few seasons. Dan Campbell should have this team ready to go to war. The young defensive backs will be tested against one of the best-receiving cores in the league. If the Lions are true Super Bowl contenders these are the types of games they must win. This could be an exciting weekend in Detroit if the Tigers clinch the playoffs and the Lions take care of business Monday Night.
