The Detroit Lions fly out to the desert to take on the Arizona Cardinals in week 3. Both teams enter the third week of the season with a record of 1-1. The Lions coming off a disappointing loss at home against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. On the other hand, the Arizona Cardinals demolished a Los Angeles Rams squad that looks like Miley Cyrus coming through with a wrecking ball.
Detroit Lions Look To Bounce Back

The Detroit Lions are trying to do their best Dennis Rodman or Ben Wallace impressions and rebound in week 3. The Lions lost and were touchdown favorites at home against Baker Mayfield and the Tampa Bay Bucs. This week they will have to face an even more mobile quarterback in Kyler Murray. Murray is off to a strong start utilizing his new young weapon last week in Marvin Harrison Jr.
Detroit tends to struggle against mobile quarterbacks so look for Linebacker Alex Anzalone to have his eyes on Murray all game. Containment of Murray will be crucial and luckily for the Lions, emerging superstar Aiden Hutchinson will be facing another backup right tackle.
What The Detroit Lions Need to Fix
The Detroit Lions couldn’t score in week 2 on a “Tinder Date” even after being asked to come over for “Netflix and Chill.” They went 1-of-7 in the red zone against the Bucs. In an area that the Lions succeeded in last year, they were absolutely garbage last week. Look for Offensive Coordinator Ben Johnson to come up with some new schemes so that the team does not have to settle for field goals.
Quarterback Jared Goff also must play better. Goff threw two interceptions against a feisty Bucs defense. It was not all Goff’s fault, the team’s strength has been the offensive line and they are not playing up to their potential either. The Lions o-line is regarded as one of the best in the league and the interior players need to step up their game. This will not only give Goff more time but will allow the Detroit Lions to establish their run game with the dynamic duo of David Montgomery and Jahmyr Gibbs.
The Detroit Lions were one the most efficient teams using play-action last season mainly due to the play of the offensive line and the threat of running the ball. Listening to Pearl Jam “Where oh where can my Sammy be? The football gods took Laporta away from me!” Sam Laporta has disappeared from this offense. Laporta is a top 3 tight end talent and should be featured way more than he has been so far this season. The Lions tight end is only averaging three catches and 29 yards per game. This man should be a problem for defenses in the middle of the field and a red-zone threat.
Final Thoughts
The Detroit Lions need to get right especially on the offensive side of the ball. It may be a struggle to contain the red hot Murray and the Arizona Cardinals though. The Lions defense has played well so far and defense travels. If the Lions bring their jumper cables and revive the offense, they will have a chance to go into the desert and get a victory. Look for Laporta to get some targets and for a big play or two for the speed demon Jameson Williams.
