Detroit Lions Injury Report

It was reported Monday, September 23rd, that the Detroit Lions added a few players to the injury report. The Lions are coming off a road victory on Sunday against a talented Arizona Cardinals team in the desert. They moved to 2-1 on the season but suffered a few injuries on the way. Detroit will have the “next man up” mentality that Dan Campbell preaches. Grit and grind will remain the focus for the team as it prepares for Seattle on Monday night.

Marcus Davenport signed a one-year deal with the Detroit Lions in the offseason. Davenport was brought to Detroit to give the defensive line some depth and possibly give Aiden Hutchinson a partner in crime. Davenport suffered an elbow injury in the second half of the game versus Arizona. According to Dan Campbell, he could be facing a season-ending injury. The Lions look to have backup and former second-round pick Josh Pascal to step up and play a significant role.

Detroit’s Injury Problems

Marcus Davenport is expected to miss the rest of the season for Detroit. Linebacker Derrick Barnes is also expected to miss some serious time. Center Frank Ragnow also suffered a partially torn pec and is expected to miss a couple of weeks. A couple of players who have been banged up for the gritty Lions have the team optimistic about their return. Tight end Sam Laporta is day to day with an ankle injury and is hopeful for the Monday night game in Week 4 against the Seahawks. As a sophomore season standout, defensive back Brian Branch is also day to day and in concussion protocol after a collision with tight end Trey McBride. Alim McNeill is suffering from a minor shoulder injury and is listed as day-to-day.

The Detroit Lions are hoping to get linebacker Alex Anzalone back as well after missing Week 3 against the Arizona Cardinals with a concussion. Luckily, the Lions have an extra day for recovery and preparation for the Seattle Seahawks on Monday Night Football in Detroit. There is no doubt Dan Campbell will have this team ready to rumble against Seattle, but hopefully, the team can get some of its key pieces back in time.

Final Thoughts

The Detroit Lions have a small case of the injury bug following week 3. But hey, this is the NFL! What team isn’t already a little banged up? We will see if General Manager Brad Holmes will make a move by signing a free agent or finding a trading partner to bring a piece or two to the team. Marcus Davenport missing the entire season is definitely a huge blow for Detroit. Maybe it’s time to make a move, “cough Maxx Crosby cough.”
