Detroit Lions Dominate Dallas in Week 6

Aidan Hutchinson, Detroit Lions

The Detroit Lions traveled to Dallas to take on the Cowboys in Week 6. The Lions dominated the game almost from the get-go. Detroit beat Dallas 47-9 in an absolute massacre. The Cowboys never really had a chance against the Lions. The Lions improve to 4-1 on the season, and the Cowboys fall to 3-3. Detroit had a bit of revenge on their mind since they lost last year’s game against Dallas on a controversial call at the end of the game. This was a statement, and the rest of the NFC/NFL might want to take notice.

Detroit Lions Win in Dominating Performance

The Detroit Lions were on a mission Sunday in America’s Game of the Week against the Dallas Cowboys. The opening drive for the Cowboys resulted in a field goal. The Lions would then dominate the rest of the game. David Montgomery celebrated his new contract extension with two touchdowns and 80 yards rushing. Jared  Goff threw for over 300 yards, 3 touchdowns, and hitting 7 different receivers in the passing game. Dallas looked overmatched the entire game against the gritty Lions.

Former Michigan Panther kicker Jake Bates went 4 for 4, adding 12 points himself. Bates has been extremely accurate this season, going 9 for 9 on field goals and 16 for 17 on extra points. Detroit’s best three receivers all caught a touchdown, including a trick play, reverse flea flicker type pass to tight end Sam Laporta for a 52-yard touchdown. Jameson Williams and Amon-ra St. Brown added receiving touchdowns as well.

Detroit Lions Shut Down Defense

The Detroit Lions’ defense had Dak Prescott and the Cowboys’ offense confused all day. Alim McNeill had two of the four team sacks. The defense also had intercepted Dallas quarterbacks on three separate occasions, including Brian Branch’s two, with one being in the end zone, ending the Cowboys’ red zone threat. The Lions’ defense limited Prescott’s yard total to under 200 yards and had Dallas off-balance the entire game. Detroit’s rush defense is one of the league’s best, holding the Cowboys offense to 53 yards rushing.

Detroit Lions defensive end and September NFC Defensive Player of the Month, Aiden Hutchinson added another sack to this year’s resume. Unfortunately for the Lions, the superstar suffered a leg injury, and he was carted off the field in the second half when the game was already well in hand. Early speculation is that Hutchinson has broken his leg, but we will wait to report once we have more information. Hutch is the heart and soul of this defense (similar to Bobby Boucher) and could be a significant loss to the Super Bowl contender.

Final Thoughts

Everyone has a plan until they get punched in the face, and that’s exactly what the Detroit Lions did in week 6. The Lions went down to Jerry’s World and dominated the competition. The Dallas Cowboys were not prepared for the grit and toughness of the Lions. David Montgomery made a statement by reaching the end zone twice a day after a contract extension. The current Lions may be one of the league’s most popular and fun teams to watch. The Lions won the battle for the title of “America’s Team” and proved to be one of the best teams in the NFC.
