Detroit Lions vs. Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Who’s In, Who’s Out

Detroit Lions, buccaneers, Jameson Williams,

In week 2, the Detroit Lions will host the Tampa Bay Buccaneers at home. Even though it’s only the second week, both teams are struggling with a number of injuries. It is anticipated that both teams will miss several crucial pieces that might change how the game plays out. With less than 48 hours to go until the game and practice done for the week, we have a good idea of who will and won’t play on Sunday.

Many key players are listed on the injury report, although the majority of them will probably play on Sunday. Due to an ankle injury, starting tackle Penei Sewell missed practice on Wednesday and Thursday but is still anticipated to play. “I’m Good” was his response when asked if he would be ready to go Sunday. Both Kerby Joseph and Jameson Williams were limited at practice this week, but considering that they both practiced on Thursday and Friday, it seems like both should be available for Sunday.

It’s uncertain if DJ Reader will be on a snap count, but he is anticipated to make his Detroit Lions debut on Sunday. Reader is expected to be a key part of this defensive line for the whole year, so the Lions may not want to rush him back.

Safety Iffy Melifonwu and defensive end Marcus Davenport will be out for the Lions. This week, Davenport missed all three practice days due to a groin issue. His presence on the defensive line will undoubtedly be missed. He made his Detroit Lions debut last week and performed well recording a sack and 6 pressures. Melifonwu will be sidelined for the second consecutive week after missing all three of this week’s practices. Despite not being a starter, he is still an excellent backup and will frequently see action when the Lions have three Safety on the field. Although the Detroit Lions will need to replace Davenport, injuries shouldn’t have a significant effect on them as a team this week.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Injuries also plague the Bucs, but unlike the Detroit Lions, they will be without several important players. Antione Winfield Jr., an All-Pro safety, is the Bucs biggest loss. Winfield is anticipated to miss a few weeks after suffering an injury during last week’s game against Washington. Luke Goedeke, the starting right tackle for the Bucs, will also be out. The Bucs were depending on Goedeke to help give Baker Mayfield time to pass because of what we saw last week from Aidan Hutchinson in week 1. Calijah Kancey, a defensive tackle, will be another significant loss for the Bucs. Kancey is essential in Tampa’s run defense, having shown a lot of potential in his rookie season.

Defensive end Logan Hall and cornerback Zyon McCollum are anticipated to play this weekend. Despite being listed as Questionable, both participated fully in practice on Thursday and Friday. The Bucs will undoubtedly feel the absence of some of their best players, but they will need some younger players to step up if they want to beat the Detroit Lions.
