Detroit Lions Win Close Battle vs Minnesota Vikings In Week 7

The Detroit Lions need to do these three things to win on Sunday.

The Detroit Lions traveled to Minnesota on Sunday to take on the undefeated Vikings for NFC North supremacy. The Lions would win this game 31-29 to take down the 5-0 Vikings to move to 5-1 and first place in the North. The Lions are starting 5-1 in back-to-back seasons for the first time since the 1930s. They also defeated a 5-0 team for the first time in 50 years. We said it before and we will repeat it this isn’t your daddy’s “same old Lions!”

Detroit Lions Give Vikings First Loss

The Detroit Lions have now realized life without emerging superstar edge rusher Aidan Hutchinson. They now sit atop the NFC North. The Lions were underdogs on the road and got off to a slow start. The Vikings jumped out to a 10-0 lead in the first quarter. The Lions were then able to lean on their offense after an unsuccessful fake punt attempt deep in their own zone. Jahmyr Gibbs, aka “Sonic,” had one of the best games of his career with 160 all-purpose yards, including 116 on the ground. Gibbs found the end zone twice and had an impressive 45-yard touchdown with a juke that would have made Barry Sanders proud.

Detroit Lions Quarterback Jared Goff continues to quiet the haters as he went 22 for 25 with 280 yards and 2 touchdowns. Goff set a new completion percentage record over a four-game stretch that was recently broken by rookie Washington Commanders Quarterback Jayden Daniels. Over that stretch of games, Goff has an 83 percent completion percentage. Goff was able to find his favorite target, Amon-Ra St.Brown, 8 times for 112 yards and a touchdown. Jake Bates kicked his first game-winning field goal since his Michigan Panther days a few months ago.

 Lions Defense Without Hutch

The Detroit Lions may have come away with the victory against the Vikings, but the absence of Hutchinson was felt. The Lions defense was able to rack up 4 sacks on Quarterback Sam Darnold. This may seem like a bunch, but Darnold had plenty of time in the pocket and showed off his mobility as well. The Lions struggled to put consistent pressure and containment allowing Darnold to rush for 39 yards. Mobile quarterbacks have been a weakness for the Detroit Lions over the past few years.

Detroit Lions Safety Brian Branch is becoming “Him” in the world of defensive backs. Branch was able to collect his fourth interception of the season. This man is becoming a ball hawk in his second season already surpassing his rookie total of three interceptions.

Final Thoughts

The Detroit Lions should be considered the best team in the NFC, if not the entire NFL, after beating the Minnesota Vikings on the road. Coach Dan Campbell continues to have this team prepared and can get the most out of his players. The Lions still need to address the loss of Hutchinson. The Vikings had plenty of time to throw all game with the lack of pressure. Anywhere you go around Detroit, you may hear “Jared Goff” chants and this man deserves it. He should be the front-runner for the MVP after week 7. He continues to ball out and is proving all the haters wrong.
