Denver Nuggets vs. Indiana Pacers Summer League Preview | July 18, 2024

Denver Nuggets vs. Jarace Walker

The NBA 2k25 Summer League is nearing its end, and tonight, fans can watch the Denver Nuggets vs. the Indiana Pacers. Both of these teams have shown some struggles this summer with the Pacers going 1-2 and the Nuggest having a losing streak of 0-3.

Unlike the Pacers, the Nuggets are still chasing their first win. They were most recently blown out by the Charlotte Hornets 66-80. Hunter Tyson stepped up for the team scoring 20 points and grabbing four rebounds. Trey Alexander also had a nice game with 18 points and eight boards. However, the rest of the team was lacking hard in all categories. Can Denver finally get a summer win, or will the Pacers bring their record to 2-2?

The Pacers notched their first in the win column against the Phoenix Suns last game. It was the trio of Jarace  Walker, Johnny Furphy, and Oscar Tshiebwe who got the job done. Walker ended the night with 19 points and five rebounds. Furphy finished with 18 points, eight rebounds, and two steals. Lastly, Tshiebwe contributed 16 points, four rebounds, and one block to get their first Summer League win.

As mentioned, Tyson has been one of the somewhat consistent players for the Nuggets this summer. He is averaging 13.3 points and 4.0 rebounds per game. However, Trey Alexander has been the best player for this team so far as he is averaging 16.0 points, 5.3 rebounds, and 3.0 assists per game. Alexander went undrafted in the 2024 NBA Draft, but the Nuggets chose to sign him to a two-way contract in June.

Unfortunately, the Nugget’s round one pick in the 2024 draft, DaRon Holmes II, had surgery on his Achilles due to an injury that occurred in his NBA 2k25 Summer League debut. Holmes II should be a solid addition to this team. However, there is no timetable for his return. He could make his debut during the season, but he will need time to get back into the swing of things.

Indiana Pacers

Jarace Walker has been a fantastic player for this Pacers team. Walker is averaging 19.7 points, 6.0 rebounds, and 4.3 assists per game. He also has 1.0 blocks and 1.0 steals per game. Their 35th overall pick, Furphy, is also putting on a solid performance with 16.0 points, 6.3 rebounds, 1.7 steals, and 1.0 blocks. Pacers fans should be excited for his regular season debut. Lastly, Tshiebwe is averaging 12.3 points and a huge 10.7 rebounds.

Tshiebwe went undrafted in the 2023 NBA draft, however he would join the Pacers in their Summer League that year and would go on to sign a two-way with the team. He’s currently playing with the Indiana Mad Ants where he’s putting up 16.2 points and an insane 16.1 rebounds per game. Look for him to be a possible prospect for the Pacers main roster.

Possible Breakout Players of the Game

Denver Nuggets

After some rough games, Jalen Pickett needs to step up. He’s played with the Nuggets main roster, but he’s only averaging 4.7 points per game this summer. He’s spent a part of his 2023-24 with the Grand Rapids Gold, where he averaged 17.5 points, 6.2 rebounds, and 8.5 assists. However, it doesn’t seem like this G League play is translating to other games.

Indiana Pacers

Tristen Newton has been struggling to get started this summer. In college, he played for the UConn Huskies and averaged 15.3 points, 6.6 rebounds, and 6.2 assists. Newton was picked at number 49 in the NBA draft, meaning there is less pressure on him to perform compared to the top picks. However, averaging 4.3 points in about 18.2 minutes per game isn’t great. Hopefully, Newton can have himself a big game before this NBA 2k25 Summer League comes to an end.
