Denver Nuggets: To Host Oklahoma City Thunder October 24

The 2024-2025 NBA season schedule has yet to be fully released, but the Denver Nuggets and the Oklahoma City Thunder will meet on October 24. Sources told Shams Charnia of The Athletic about this news. A season ago, Denver and Oklahoma City both had a 57-25 record in the Western Conference, but the Thunder were the one seed. Oklahoma City lost to the Dallas Mavericks in the second round in six games. As for the Nuggets, they lost to the Minnesota Timberwolves in seven games in the second round last season.

Potential Top 4 Seed Again This Year

It would not be a surprise to see the Nuggets or the Thunder as a top-four seed in the Western Conference this season. The Western Conference is very difficult, but both teams are built to be successful for the long haul. Nikola Jokic has won the NBA MVP the last three of four seasons. Joel Embiid of the Philadelphia 76ers was the only other winner in that span during the 2022-2023 season. Denver just won the title two years ago against the Miami Heat, but they could take a step back. They are not deep outside of Jokic, Jamal Murray, and Michael Porter Jr. It is also true that Aaron Gordon has stepped up for them in big moments. There is a reason why he is the fourth option on the Denver Nuggets.

Nikola Jokic last season averaged 26.4 PPG, 12.4 RPG, 9.0 APG, and also shot 58.3% from the field. He is always a double-double or triple-double waiting to happen on a night-to-night basis. Jamal Murray has been the perfect number-two option for the Denver Nuggets over the past few years. Head coach Mike Malone has always held his players accountable and it is one of the reasons why they are so successful. Denver will always be in championship contention because Jokic is the best player in the world.

As for the Oklahoma City Thunder, they are a very young basketball team and they will have a wide-open championship window. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander was an NBA MVP finalist a season ago. He averaged 30.1 PPG, 5.5 RPG, 6.2 APG, and also shot 53.5% from the field. Gilgeous-Alexander was electrifying for the Thunder a season ago and was by far the best player on his team. Chet Holmgren will become the second option for the Oklahoma City Thunder. Oklahoma City traded away Josh Giddey in the offseason to the Chicago Bulls for Alex Caruso. They also signed Isaiah Hartenstein in free agency. He played with the New York Knicks a season ago.

Mark Daigneault is the head coach of the Thunder. He has a bright future in this league. The matchup between the Denver Nuggets and the Oklahoma City Thunder could either be a Western Conference Finals Preview or a playoff preview. Denver and Oklahoma City will no doubt be two of the top four teams in the Western Conference. The Minnesota Timberwolves and the Dallas Mavericks may be the other two top-four seeds in the West this season. Jokic and Gilgeous-Alexander going at it will be a fun watch.
