Denver Nuggets Star Nikola Jokic Dazzles In Loss

Nikola Jokic

Denver Nuggets Center Nikola Jokic has put together a three-game stretch for the ages. He is averaging 45 points, 12.3 rebounds, and 10.7 assists in April. His streak began with a 61-point triple-double on April 1 and continued against the Golden State Warriors and Indiana Pacers.

Even though the three-time MVP is playing as well as he ever has, his great performance has not led to on-court success. The Denver Nuggets are 0-3 over Jokic’s hot streak. Will the all-time great maintain his level of play for a team in freefall?

Nikola Jokic Season Summary

He is putting together another MVP-caliber season. He is third in points, third in rebounds, second in assists, and eighth in field goal percentage. The star center broke Wilt Chamberlain’s record for the most triple-doubles for a center in a season with 32. He also tied Chamberlain for the most 40-point triple-doubles for a center all-time(7). Jokic had a 41-15-13 game on Sunday against the Indiana Pacers to make history.

Jokic will finish second in the NBA MVP race to Shai Gilgeous-Alexander of the Oklahoma City Thunder. Jokic is playing better than ever but will be dinged for his team’s success or lack thereof. The Nuggets are 47-32 while the Thunder are 64-14. Even though the Nuggets Center has had a better season than Gilgeous-Alexander, the difference in team success will be too much for him to overcome.

Final Thoughts

Jokic and the Denver Nuggets will be locked in a dogfight in the regular season. The Western Conference is unbelievably tight. Denver will look to end their four-game skid Wednesday night on the road against the Sacramento Kings. It is concerning for the Nuggets heading into the postseason their superstar is playing so well and the team can’t win.
