Denver Broncos Aim For Pivotal Week 5 Triumph

The Denver Broncos fade an important game on Sunday against the Raiders.

The Denver Broncos return home today to face the Las Vegas Raiders, who have won the last eight matchups between the two teams.  The Broncos seek their third straight victory and are setting a course for success in the AFC West.

Proofs

There is a lot to prove again this week after the Denver Broncos slogged to an ugly but effective 10-9 road win against the New York Jets. Quarterback Bo Nix finished the game with a total of 60 passing yards and his first NFL touchdown.

Nix will need to show continued progress and prove to the Raiders, the NFL, and Broncos Country that he’s capable of becoming a dominant quarterback. It’s only Week 5, but he needs to step up and deliver more than he has so far. The burden isn’t all on Bo Nix. Head Coach and play-caller Sean Payton also needs to show he can still run an offense that keeps defensive coordinators guessing.

Petitions

On Sunday afternoon, the Denver Broncos will honor the 1977 AFC Championship team by wearing the iconic throwback uniform. In addition, they will enshrine two members of that championship team into the ring of fame: Safety Steve Foley and Tight End Riley Odoms.

The current Denver Broncos defense is not the Orange Crush of Steve Foley’s era, but they are playing at a very high level and will need to continue to do so to beat the Raiders. Riley Odoms, on the other hand, is most likely wondering the same thing that the rest of Broncos Country is today: Where have all the tight ends gone?

Sean Payton, Joe Lombardi, and Bo Nix need to honor Riley Odoms’ greatness and throw the ball to the tight ends against the Raiders.  If not to honor the greatness of Odoms, use the tight ends to help a young quarterback find an early rhythm.  Use the tight ends to stretch the field and allow RB Javonte Williams to find open space at the second level.  For the love of the game, in the memory of Shannon Sharpe, Julius Thomas, Clarence Kay, Orson Mobley, and even Ron Egloff—use Greg Dulcich.

Predictions

The Raiders come into the game banged up and in turmoil. Max Crosby’s participation is a question, and star Wide Receiver Davante Adams is most likely out with a hamstring injury. Head Coach Antonio Pierce is trying to keep his head above water amid questions about his time as a college coach. It seems that every time the Raiders are in turmoil (and there have been many over the recent years), the Denver Broncos are next on the schedule, and it is a “get right” game for the Raiders.

Not this time. On Sunday afternoon, the Denver Broncos will have their turn to get their offense right.  The offense looked better in the win over Tampa Bay but then took a step back against the Jets. On Sunday, in ideal conditions, Bo Nix and the Broncos offense are poised for a breakout day. The defense will remind Raiders Quarterback Gardner Minshew that the Orange Crush is alive and well, not only in the Ring of Fame but on the gridiron as well. The Denver Broncos get it right: Broncos 27  Raiders 10
