Denver Broncos Seek To Look Sharp In Week 8 Matchup

The Denver Broncos look to undefeated a poor Carolina Panthers team.

The Denver Broncos will host the Carolina Panthers on Sunday afternoon, and both teams are at pivotal moments in their season. The Broncos are eyeing a home victory to further their playoff ambitions. Meanwhile, the Panthers hope to reignite their season behind rookie Quarterback Bryce Young, who steps back into the starting lineup.

Returns

Patrick Surtain II returns for the Denver Broncos this week after being placed in the concussion protocol. Surtain has been an integral part of the Denver Broncos’ strong defense this season, and his absence was noticeable. His return this week against the Panthers will play a significant role in how Defensive Coordinator Vance Joseph attempts to shut down Bryce Young.

Young hasn’t lived up to the Panthers’ hopes when they selected him first overall in the 2023 NFL Draft.  He began the year as the Panthers starting quarterback but was replaced by Andy Dalton a few weeks ago. Dalton, a serviceable veteran, brought experience to a young and under-talented Panthers team. Earlier this week, he injured his hand in a car accident, forcing the Panthers back to Young.

It will be interesting to see how Young responds in his return to the lineup. He will face a formidable Denver Broncos defense that has been applying intense pressure and is second in the league in sacks. The Broncos will need to keep Young in the pocket, challenging him to throw against one of the league’s best defensive backfields.

A Win Is Always Good

In the NFL, any win is a good win.  The Denver Broncos will gladly take a win against the Panthers this week, no matter how it looks. But…it would be nice if the Broncos offense flashed some style. “Clean shirt, new shoes, and I don’t know where I am goin’ to. Silk suit, black tie—I don’t need a reason why.” The bearded rockers from ZZ Top knew that being a sharp-dressed man carries a bit more gravitas. The Broncos have surprised many around the league as they have won five of the last five games, but those wins have been hard-fought battles.

The Broncos have unveiled a fresh look this year and have a great opportunity to dominate a struggling Carolina team. Bo Nix could twirl his cane and tip his hat to the crowd with a breakout performance this week. If he and the offense can put on a sharp performance, the Broncos will know where they are “goin’ to” –the playoffs.

Final Thoughts

The Denver Broncos will need to stay sharp this week and avoid the temptation to overlook a Carolina team hoping to change the course of their season. The Broncos went into Tampa Bay in Week 3 and dominated a Buccaneers team that had its sights set beyond them.  If the Broncos’ defense can continue to look good and Bo Nix can produce a banger, then every Broncos fan will be crazy about this version of the Denver Broncos.
