The Denver Broncos Crush the Carolina Panthers 28-14

The Denver Broncos defeated the Carolina Panthers today.

On a postcard afternoon in the “Mile High City”, the Denver Broncos trapped the Panthers and won 28-14. Denver was dominant in all facets and the Carolina Panthers, one of the worst teams in the league, had no remedy from the onslaught by the Broncos. Will the Denver Broncos be able to keep up their high level play?

Taking Care Of Business

Local and national media discussed the Denver Broncos’ potential fall into a trap against a desperate Carolina Panthers football team during the week. But the Broncos kept their focus and dominated the outmatched and injury-laden Panthers team.

The last two weeks, the schedule has been kind to the Broncos, as they faced the Saints and the Panthers. Both teams were decimated by injuries and poor performance. But the Broncos can only play the teams on the schedule, and they did what they were supposed to do on Sunday afternoon. Beat a struggling team.

The Denver Broncos will now turn the page and will run headlong into the teeth of the most difficult stretch of the season as they travel to Baltimore and Kansas City, respectively  It doesn’t get any easier as the Atlanta Falcons fly into Denver the following week.  The  Denver Broncos will need to put their hard hats on over the next few weeks because there is lots of business at hand.

Finally!

Denver Broncos Country may have just witnessed the coming out of Bo Nix, the 12th overall pick in this year’s draft. In the first half, the rookie quarterback threw two touchdowns, ran for another touchdown, and was as comfortable as he has been so far this season.

He ended the day going 28-of-37 for 284 yards and three touchdowns in the air. The encouraging part about those numbers is that they could have been even greater if the Broncos were not blowing out the Panthers in the second half. Head Coach Sean Payton was determined to run the clock and the ball down the throat of the Panthers’ beleaguered defense.

Nix was not asked to pass nearly as much in the second half because the game was well in hand. It was the best performance of the year for the Broncos offense, and it should be a catalyst to instill greater confidence as they head into the next phase of the season.

Showing Out

Last week, the Broncos’ number one wide receiver, Courtland Sutton, was not targeted in their victory over the Saints. That changed massively on Sunday afternoon, as Sutton was targeted 11 times and had eight catches for 100 yards. To cap off his terrific game, Sutton completed a 28-yard pass to Fullback Michael Burton in the fourth quarter.

The only blemish on Sutton’s day was near the end of the game when he could have padded his stellar performance more, but he fumbled the ball on the 1-inch line. The Panthers recovered the ball, negating an afternoon that would have shown an even greater blowout.

Sutton was not the only one to show out. The tight end room, at last, put up some numbers that we have not seen all year. Adam Trautman had four catches on four targets for 85 yards and a touchdown. Lukas Krull had two catches on two targets for 18 yards, and blocking Tight End Nate Adkins had one catch on one target for a massive touchdown. The entire offense put on a masterful show, and Payton finally let his players play and have some fun.

Final Thoughts

The Denver Broncos looked like a team beginning to understand who it is and how to win football games. The defense was solid once again, and the offense operated efficiently, utilizing bootlegs and rollouts. The Denver Broncos will be tested over the next three weeks, and the league will learn a great deal about this team’s potential. It is time for the Broncos to take care of business.
