DeMarcus Cousins, also known as Boogie, is a free-agent center who last played for the Taiwan Beer Leopards of the T1 League in 2023-24. Cousins, 34, is best known for his seven-year tenure with the Sacramento Kings from 2010 to 2017.
The latest Cousins headline wasn’t about an NBA comeback, but instead his recent comments about Klay Thompson and his departure from the Golden State Warriors after a 13-tenure in the Bay Area. Read on for Cousins’ comments about Thompson, his departure, and his current team.
DeMarcus Cousins Believes In Klay Thompson
DeMarcus Cousins’ belief in Klay Thompson was fairly positive. Cousins, a former Golden State Warriors center, reportedly believes that Thompson’s emotions are high off his “divorce” from Golden State and will mostly be positive ones.
Even though Thompson missed all nine shots in the Mavericks’ 110-96 loss to the Los Angeles Clippers in an away preseason game at the Intuit Dome in Inglewood, California, Cousins recently said on the “Run It Back” podcast, “Obviously, Dallas got better.”
“They added a third piece that complements them perfectly. There’s less pressure on Klay (Thompson) to perform how they were expecting him to perform in Golden State. So it’s less pressure in Dallas. I think we see Klay have a really good year. He’s going to be a perfect complimentary piece. He’s been that before with championship teams. I think he has a good comeback season.”
Cousins’ recent statements were fair, as Thompson can help the Mavericks reduce their overall pressure as a good, if not great, complimentary player in Dallas. Thompson’s extensive experience can also help the Mavericks increase their chances and leadership skills.
DeMarcus Cousins Oozes With Confidence
DeMarcus Cousins appeared to be oozing with confidence about Klay Thompson in his recent appearance on the “Run It Back” podcast. Cousins seemed to be at ease and ready to talk about Thompson, his departure from the Golden State Warriors, and his future with the Dallas Mavericks.
Cousins told the “Run It Back” panelists about Thompson, “The biggest thing is we’ll see a happy Klay (Thompson). Klay’s looking to be loved and embraced, and I think Dallas is the perfect fan base and city to achieve that. So we’ll see a happy Klay and that’s good for the NBA.”
Jason Kidd Isn’t Dealing With Worry
Dallas Mavericks head coach Jason Kidd reportedly isn’t worried about Klay Thompson even though Thompson went 0-for-9 from the field and missed all six of his three-point shots in the Mavericks’ preseason game against the Los Angeles Clippers at the Intuit Dome. As a whole, the Mavericks’ team struggled offensively in the game.
The Mavericks’ offense will likely look different in the regular season as opposed to the preseason. It’s important to note the Mavericks were without Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving in the game. It’s also important to note the Mavericks now have two productive centers in Dereck Lively II and Daniel Gafford, which is a step in the right direction for the Mavericks’ one-two punch ahead of the upcoming season.
