Deion Sanders Claps Back At Media After Huge Victory Over UCF

Deion Sanders has had an interesting relationship with the media over his first two years at Colorado. Coach Prime has banned certain members of the media who he feels are slandering him and his team. He lets certain reporters know he reads what they say about him. Sanders had a lot to say to the media after the Colorado Buffaloes picked up a huge road win against UCF.

Deion Sanders Claps Back At Media

The Buffaloes were double-digit underdogs going into the game. Some sportsbooks had them as a two-touchdown underdog. Colorado was in control the whole game. The defense, which has often been criticized, held UCF to 21 points and shut them out in the fourth quarter. On offense, Shedeur Sanders and Travis Hunter showed off what makes them special. The younger Sanders had 290 yards passing with three touchdowns. Hunter caught nine passes for 89 yards and a touchdown. He also added a marvelous interception on defense.

In the postgame press conference, Deion Sanders had a fun exchange with the media.

“I’m so darn proud of where we are,” Sanders said. “We could be in a whole different place right now, but look it… We’re going into the break. What’s the record?”

“Four-and-one,” the news media responded.

“Say it again,” Sanders said, acting like he couldn’t hear.

“Four-and-one,” the room said again.

“I just wanted to hear y’all say it collectively, and y’all fell for it,” Sanders said with a laugh.

“We’re 4-1 going into the break, and I’m so excited, you have no idea,” Sanders said. “It’s gonna be a really good plane ride tonight.”

While the coach was having a little fun, he also wanted to make sure the media knew the record. After going 4-8 last year, many thought the Buffaloes would be even worse this year. Deion Sanders has drawn heavy criticism for his coaching and recruiting style. It didn’t matter on Saturday. The victory gives them a lot of confidence going into the next part of the season.

Looking Ahead

Don’t look now, but the Colorado Buffaloes sit atop the Big 12 standings. BYU and Texas Tech are also 2-0. Their non-conference loss to Nebraska on the road looks better as the Cornhuskers keep winning. They have plenty of big games coming up on the schedule. Deion Sanders has two weeks to prepare his team for Kansas State coming to town on October 12th. Utah and Oklahoma State also come to Boulder in November. Any conference game is tough but those are the ones to circle on the calendar. If the Buffaloes can win two out of those three, they could be in the College Football Playoff conversation.

Deion Sanders deserves some criticism, but some people refuse to recognize what he does well. He prepared his team for a tough road game against a quality opponent. They didn’t just squeaked out a win. They dominated from the opening kickoff. This is the mark of a good team. The football season is a long one. Teams evolve and figure things out from week to week. A more promising sign for this team is the defense. If they can continue to take pressure off the offense, Deion Sanders could find himself on college football’s biggest stage.
