Is Kevin DeBruyne on His Way to the MLS This Season?

Kevin DeBruyne is one of the most highly respected and widely lauded players in the footballing world. He is often hailed as one of the best midfielders of any generation, helping lead Manchester City to numerous Premier League victories and giving his national team, Belgium, the chance to win international competitions.

However, he is slowly getting older, as all players do. English football fans are worried DeBruyne might make a move this season to another league in the world that could offer him a huge contract with more money and guaranteed playing time.

But, where will he go? Turns out two clubs are interested in the MLS in the United States to sign the Belgian midfielder this upcoming year.

DeBruyne Could go to the MLS This Year

DeBruyne might not be in the light blue of Manchester City for too much longer if the MLS has its way. One of the main clubs that are looking to sign the midfielder is San Diego FC in the top tier of men’s football in America. Although this is a huge attempt and it might not go anywhere, MLS fans can only dream that this incredible one-of-a-kind player will grace the pitch on American soil sometime soon.

But, the rumor might turn out to be true. There have been hints in the last few days that Manchester City has DeBruyne’s “replacement” all lined up and ready for the Belgian to leave and go elsewhere. Although, no one can replace this incredibly talented footballer.

We know that Pep Guardiola would cover all of his bases if his players were thinking of leaving. That is why he has looked into getting Musiala from Bayern Munich in the German Bundesliga, a young player with tons of potential who can learn and grow in Pep’s side. Pep Guardiola is great at nurturing young players, like Phil Foden, to go on and become one of the best in the world.

Kevin DeBruyne is a 33-year-old Belgian footballer who first started playing at KVV Drongen in his hometown. He then quickly moved to Gent and Genk, where he showed promise as just a teenager. He broke into the senior side at Genk, a top-tier side in the Belgian Pro League, and made almost 100 appearances for the club during his four-year stint.

Then, at just 21 years old, he went to Chelsea. He had one successful loan spell during his time at Chelsea for Werder Bremen, where he went on to make 33 appearances and score ten goals as a midfielder. VfL Wolfsburg then snapped up the talented youngster, where he went on to make 52 appearances and score 13 goals in two seasons.

In 2015, he signed for the infamous Manchester City. In the last eight seasons, he has made more than 250 appearances and scored 68 goals for his club. Now, he might go to the MLS or the Saudi Pro League to continue his career as it starts to wind down with his age.

The likelihood of DeBruyne going to the Saudi Pro League is just as high as him going to America. Some of his teammates, like Gundogan, left last year and have had successful seasons abroad, so he might follow in their footsteps. Plus, in his mid-30s, he is coming to the end of his playing days. It seems like this could be the right time to make a move, especially if San Diego FC or a Saudi team are interested in paying him the big bucks. Only time will tell if DeBruyne is going to ‘sell-out’ or stick with City for one more year.
