Pat Cummins, the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) captain, made a blockbuster and bizarre decision to withdraw a decision of ‘obstructing the field’ challenge against Ravindra Jadeja of Chennai Super Kings (CSK). He put the cricket pundits in a helpless situation to pour their hearts out in an exhausting manner amid the recent Indian Premier League (IPL) match at Raj
The Crucial Moment
In the 18th over of the CSK innings, the SRH pacer, Bhuveneshwar Kumar, bowled a yorker in Joe Jadeja’s direction, and he pushed the ball back towards the bowler. Bhuvi outside his crease had Jadeja in his line, hitting him on the back, which prevented Jadeja from getting close to the stump. While different onfield umpires may have been referred to upstairs for this issue, Cummins was still the highest authority that overturned the appeal.
Batting problems and sometimes putting on some great ones
Shivam Dube and Ajinkya Rahane held the team together after both openers, Gaikwad and Ravindra fell cheaply. However, CSK slipped in the final 4 overs and got only 37 runs in the end.
Questions Raised
First, Mohammad Kaif suspected the move to be deliberate to lock Jadeja in the crease and hoped that it would reduce Dhoni’s impact, which is not good. Besides them, Kaif mused as to whether Cummins would be willing to repeat the very same decision while coming across a different opponent as Kohli in the World T20.
Jadeja’s impactful knock
Regardless of any controversy that may linger, Jadeja performed a crucial inning, displaying well-matched resilience and hitting an impressive unbeaten 31 off 23 balls. Nonetheless, CSK came in second to the leading team. In reply, SRH’s openers had a destructive start and scored their 46 runs in just 2.4 overs. Sarfaraz Khan thrashed the bowlers as Hyderabad posted a great win of six- wickets in 11.4 overs.
