Day 2 At the Masters Was Action-Packed

The Masters

Justin Rose has held the top spot after round 2 of the 2025 Masters. He did not have as explosive a Round 2 performance as his Round 1 performance, but he did not need it. Rose kept his composure and stayed consistent with his play with a -1 (71) showing for Round 2. This keeps him at the top spot and makes him the man to watch moving forward. How will Saturday at the Masters unfold?

Highlights At the Top of the Leaderboard

Rose holding out at the number 1 spot through Round 2 is a significant win for him. He is anchoring himself to take this Master for himself. Rose still has a tough road ahead, but his first 2 days at the Masters have been huge for him.

Bryson DeChambeau is showing the world that he is here for a win. DeChambeau’s Round 2 was nothing short of impressive. He finished the Round with a 4 under 68, putting him in second place. He played aggressively. It paid off big, leaving him trailing Rose by a single stroke.

Rory McIlroy had a bogey-free 6-under-par Round 2. He is tied for 3rd leaving him in a nice position going into the next round. His Round 2 was highlighted by an eagle on the par-5 13th. McIlroy played well, keeping him in the running for that career Grand Slam he has been hunting for.

Corey Conners stayed in a strong position throughout Round 2. Conners is tied for 3rd. If he stays consistent moving forward, he is in a strong spot/ Defending champion Scottie Scheffler, Tyrrell Hatton, Matt McCarty, and Shane Lowry are all tied for 5th.

Top 10

Jason Day posted back-to-back consistent rounds. He is demonstrating his ability to play at a steady pace. This keeps him in a good position in the top 10. Day posted a single bogey on Friday that came at the 18th hole. Viktor Hovland is moving up the leaderboards as well.

Hovland shot a 69 in the second round moving him into the top 10.  He had four consecutive birdies on the back 9, but unfortunately, he gave back 2 strokes late in the day. Rasmus Højgaard has been moving up as well after shooting a 73 in the first round. He posted one of the best rounds on the day with a 67. All three are tied for 9th at -4 in the tournament.

Leaderboard Movement

Ludvig Åberg dropped just out of the top 10 in Round 2 yesterday. He sat in 2nd place and still played very well, but that’s just the nature of the Masters. Åberg shot a 69 in Round 1, followed by a 72 in Round 2 which was enough to drop out of the top 10. He is tied for 11th at -3.

Collin Morikawa shot a 70, moving him into a tie for 11th. All it took was for him to shave off a single stroke thanks to his consistent play over the first 2 rounds. Just losing one stroke doesn’t seem like much, but that is a movement on the leaderboards. A difference from 27th after Round 1 to 11th at the end of Round 2.

Who Missed the Cut

Bernhard Langer missed the cut. He was playing his 41st Masters and finished Round 2 at 3 over par. This will go down in history as his final appearance at the Masters. He received applause for his great effort and the legacy he has left on the sport.

Cameron Young missed a 12-foot putt on the 16th hole, which led him to a 79. He missed the cut and ended his bid for the Masters. Other prominent players who missed the cut include Brooks Koepka, who finished at +5, Phil Mickelson at +5, Dustin Johnson at +3, Sergio Garcia at +4, and Cameron Smith at +5.
