In another turn of events, Davante Adams has requested a trade from the Las Vegas Raiders. This comes after Adams sat out last Sunday’s win. There appears to be a fracture between Las Vegas Raiders Head Coach Antonio Pierce and Adams. Pierce liked an Instagram post suggesting the superstar had played his last game as a Raider. Adams revealed he hadn’t spoken to Pierce since last week.
Pierce also was asked about the health of Maxx Crosby and Adams and referred to them as “Maxx and 17,” which was rather dismissive of the receiver. After Adams advocated for Pierce to get the head coaching job, it appears there was a falling out.
Las Vegas Isn’t Asking For Much
The reported compensation that Las Vegas is asking for isn’t much. According to Adam Schefter, the Las Vegas Raiders are only asking for “a second-round pick and additional compensation.” Given the stature of Adams as a player, they aren’t asking for a lot to make a deal happen.
This is likely to attract most of the teams in the league. Even teams that have solid receiver rooms might be willing to send over a second-round pick to add a player of Adams’ caliber. He instantly could boost any receiver room in the league and make anybody a title contender.
Most Likely Destination: New York Jets
This would be the most ideal location for Adams. The Las Vegas Raiders could very well reunite Adams with his former Quarterback Aaron Rodgers in New York. It would instantly make the Jets the story of the league and it would propel them into potential playoff contention.
This would be coming off the heels of New York’s 10-9 loss to the Denver Broncos. They already have good receivers in Garrett Wilson and Mike Williams, but a player of Adams caliber would make the offense deadly. Adams had an amazing connection with Rodgers in Green Bay and had been rumored to be heading to the Jets ever since Rodgers got there.
Another Potential Destination: Washington Commanders
Washington Commanders rookie Quarterback Jayden Daniels has been a revelation for Washington. While the offense has Terry McClaurin, they could always use another receiver. Adams would be the bonafide superstar that the team could use to pair up with their rookie quarterback.
Seeing this combination would be a major gut punch for the Las Vegas Raiders and their fans. It was rumored that Las Vegas offered three first-round picks to try and move up and select Daniels in the draft, but were rejected. Seeing Adams catching touchdown passes from Daniels in a different uniform would be a different kind of pain for “Raider Nation.”
Sleeper Destination: San Francisco 49ers
This connection would be another match made in heaven. Allegedly, the San Francisco 49ers kicked the tires on a potential Adams or Jakobi Meyers trade over the summer. The Las Vegas Raiders promptly laughed them out of the building and refused to make a deal, but of course, things have changed.
An ideal package here could include draft picks and a receiver since the Niners have an overabundance of them at the moment. They’re stacked at the receiver position, but getting a player like Adams is a chance that General Manager John Lynch might be willing to take. 49ers Head Coach Kyle Shannahan would be able to do wonders with him in the offense.
Not In a Million Years: Kansas City Chiefs
This is a rumor that has been kicked around by different outlets and on social media. There’s no way that the Las Vegas Raiders would send Adams to their arch-rivals, the Kansas City Chiefs. The Chiefs do have a need at receiver after the injury to Rashee Rice, but the Raiders will never be in the business of helping their biggest rival.
There haven’t been many trades over the years between the two teams. At the same time, you can never completely rule out anything involving the Las Vegas Raiders. This also hurts a lot of the optimism following the team’s win last week over Cleveland.
