Dansby Swanson’s Big Bat Leads To Cubs 3rd Straight Series Victory

Dansby Swanson

The Chicago Cubs won their third straight series last night thanks in part to Shortstop Dansby Swanson and his 4-RBI night. It was a cold night at the Friendly Confines of Wrigley Field with a first-pitch reading of 35 degrees. It certainly looked like the ball wasn’t going to go too far, but that didn’t stop Swanson from doing what he does best, rising to the occasion.

Swanson’s Can Do Attitude

After Rangers Catcher Jonah Heim got the scoring started in the top of the 2nd inning with a 2-run single, it was Swanson’s turn to inflict some damage. He deposited a 2-2 hanging cutter from Patrick Corbin into the left-field bleachers, his 4th homer of the young season.

In the bottom of the 5th, he made it a little easier on himself hitting a sacrifice fly to center field scoring Seiya Suzuki and breaking a 3-3 tie. The energy in Wrigley Field was palpable in the 8th inning. Rangers reliever Chris Martin intentionally walked Kyle Tucker, unleashing a relentless wall of boos from the Cubs’ fans, but ultimately set the team up for some late heroics.

Swanson came up two batters later and laced an inside cutter from Martin into the right-center gap for a single scoring Ian Happ and Tucker. It gave the Cubs an 8-6 lead. The Cubs never looked back and ended up winning the game 10-6.

Notes

With a Cubs team that has Tucker and Suzuki, it was nice to see Swanson have a big day at the plate. He is mostly known for his glove work in the field. While it was a brisk night in Chicago, Swanson says, “It’s always 75 and sunny in my mind.” He ended up 2-of-4 with a home run, 2 runs scored, a stolen base, and 4 RBI. Not a bad day at the office.

Swanson helped the Cubbies to score 10 runs overall. They have scored at least seven runs for the 7th time in the past 8 games. If the ball is jumping this well in Chicago this early in the season, what’s it going to do once the summer months hit?
