Former New York Giants Quarterback Daniel Jones has signed with the Minnesota Vikings. Jones was granted his release from the Giants last week after getting benched by the team. Danny “Dimes” led the New York Football Giants to an NFC worst record of 2-8. Was New York a bad fit for Jones? What will his role be with Minnesota? Will he ever be able to fulfill another starting job in the NFL?
Daniel Jones Is Now a Viking
Daniel Jones was benched, to no one’s surprise, last week by the New York Giants. The Giants looked to their man Tommy “Cutlets” DeVito to take over the reins at quarterback. DeVito and the Giants had Thanksgiving Dinner a few days early, but they played the role of the turkey. Baker Mayfield and the Tampa Bay Bucs came into New York and cooked the Giants in a 30-7 win. Jones cleared waivers the day after the “can of whoop ass” was opened as a side dish on Sunday for the Giants.
Danny “Dimes” was expected to sign with either a Super Bowl contender or a place where he could compete for a starting role. Honestly, he succeeded at both. The Minnesota Vikings are in second place in the NFC North with an impressive 9-2 record. Many fans around the league did not expect much from the Vikings after rookie, future franchise quarterback hopeful, and National Champion JJ McCarthy was injured during the preseason for the entire year. Minnesota would look at veteran Sam Darnold to take over the starting role.
Darnold has had a solid season. It is better than people would have expected out of the journeyman backup quarterback. Darnold has looked brilliant at times and has also looked like a first-round bust at times. Darnold is one of five quarterbacks so far this season with double-digit interceptions. So it makes sense for the Vikings to sign DJ to add him to the quarterback room.
Final Thoughts
Daniel Jones can be a starter in this league with the right fit. Bringing him to Minnesota, away from the bright lights of New York, may be one of the best moves he could have made. The Vikings are a contender in the NFC, and DJ brings playoff experience with him. Darnold, like Jones, has bettered his situation by leaving New York. The Giants may be in as much turmoil as the Jets are. Drew Locke is not happy with his role after being surpassed for “Cutlets.”
Even rookie Malik Nabers had some kind words this past week about their current situation and losing 6 in a row. Daniel Jones is a duel-threat quarterback with the right coaching and personnel around him, and he could be an asset for the Minnesota Vikings.
