Daniel Cormier criticized Joaquin Buckley because he called out an unexpected fighter. Buckley fought Nursulton Ruziboev in the previous UFC event. After the fight, fighters are given a moment to speak, and that moment is precious for everybody. Usually, fighters challenge somebody in their division and someone who can be a possible fit for their next fight. But Buckley has something different to offer, as he called out Conor McGregor in the post-fight interview. After that, everyone criticized him, including the commentators and Cormier.
Joaquin Buckley ‘Running into DC’
Daniel Cormier: After that, Buckley was upset about criticism by many people, especially Cormier. He will be fighting in the upcoming UFC 307 card, which will be in Delta Center in Salt Lake City, so they will probably bump into each other and that is what Buckley wants so that he can confront Cormier and ask him why he criticized him. They probably want to trash-talk against each other at the event. Cormier replied to that on his YouTube channel alongside Ben Askren. And he wanted to know why fighters are so sensitive.
“Why are fighters so sensitive? It’s bad. I mean, it is bad. Like bro, you know that Joaquin Buckley has still been trying to fight me and pick on me? Bro, why? Why? Why?”
Ben Askren agrees with DC
Askren agrees with Cormier, but he also wants to take care of the fighter. He wants Buckley to understand that there are things that he shouldn’t take too seriously. He also appreciated his training with Nick Simmons, including what he said to Buckley:
“And I like Joaquin Buckley. I think he’s a good dude, who trains with Nick Simmons. I agree with Daniel Cormier. No, I agreed, I agreed with you. And this is where, again, don’t take yourself too seriously.”
Daniel Cormier: While things heated up several times, Buckley clearly stated to UFC that he has no ‘beef’ with DC but would like to figure this stuff out with Cormier. Buckley said this after releasing a bold statement against Cormier: “Ya mommas raised some hoes” so that UFC would not take serious actions against him meeting DC.
On the other hand, Daniel Cormier seems to be chill and calm. He’s not bothered by what Buckley is going to say or do on the day they meet, but he sometimes takes it as a joke and laughs it away. This can be noticed when Cormier says this with a laugh: “Oh my gosh. You have no idea how bad he is, how mad Buckley’s going to be.”
Final Thoughts
Criticism keeps going on through the fighters. In reality, trash-talking has a big role in promoting the upcoming fights. It can be from the rival fighter or the commentator, and nowadays, it can also be from the coach. But taking some words very personally should not be a part of the game.
