Dani Alves, the former Barcelona and Brazil international defender, is confirmed to be alive. This has put an end to the rumors surrounding his alleged suicide. Rumors had it that the former star took his life while in prison.
Why And How He Went To Prison
In January, The Former Brazilian Defender was first arrested without bail for allegedly assaulting a woman in a Barcelona nightclub back in 2022. A trial was then scheduled for February 2024, proven guilty and the player was sentenced to four and a half years in prison.
The Trial Process
The former Barcelona player, who is widely recognized as one of the greatest footballers ever, has vehemently denied the allegations of sexually assaulting the woman in December 2022. Alves maintained that the sexual encounter was consensual. His lawyer requested his release and expressed intentions to appeal the verdict.
The lawyer of the victim expressed satisfaction with the verdict, stating that it “acknowledges what we have always believed: the truth as shared by the victim and the pain endured.”The court also ruled that Alves must compensate the victim with a payment of €150,000. The lawyers of the accused believe he was drunk and should get a merciful judgment. Joana Sanz, Dani Alves’ wife testified he returned home drunk, the night the incident occurred. The court stated that his alcohol consumption did not impact his behavior, according to their argument.
The lawyers said Alves persuaded the victim, into the VIP area of the club after buying a bottle of champagne for her and her friends. They further said it was at this moment he became aggressive, coercing the woman into engaging in sexual activity despite her repeated pleas to stop.
The court statement stated that the evidence, including the plaintiff’s testimony, proves that the victim did not give consent, confirming the occurrence of the rape.
In a surprising twist, he initially denied any familiarity with his accuser, but later altered his narrative once more, asserting that they had engaged in consensual sexual activity. According to him, both parties were mutually enjoying the encounter. This conflicting sequence of statements adds complexity to the case.
