Washington Commanders (2-1) Head Coach Dan Quinn wasted no time having the team leave Cincinnati to prepare for the Arizona Cardinals (1-2) in Arizona. Staying focused was more important.
Speaking to media from Arizona Tuesday, Dan Quinn explained why it was important to get ready immediately for the next game. “For a young team to do is not ride the roller coaster…You can’t ride the highs and the lows because both can be equally dangerous.” For Week 4, it’s another game on the road. It’s also preparation against a team looking for their second win. “It was awesome last night, big road win, I wanted them to enjoy it, but none of us are buying that ticket for a roller coaster today….Our focus is on improvement, ” Quinn said.
Dan Quinn: No Comparison To QB Jayden Daniels
When asked about quarterback Jayden Daniels’ performance, Dan Quinn said Daniels played a remarkable game. However, he wants fans to focus on who Daniels is and who he is becoming: someone different from previous quarterbacks. Since the season started, fans have speculated if Daniels was the second coming of Robert Griffin III and compared Daniels to other former Commanders quarterbacks.
“Our fan base has been waiting for the franchise QB. Also, I don’t want Jayden feeling any ghosts, making sure he understands there is only one name on the back of that jersey, and that’s for him.” He added, “I don’t want any comparison…Comparison is the thief of joy…I don’t want to compare him to anybody but him…He’s still growing, and I can’t wait to see who he’s becoming. “
Dan Quinn: Practice Makes Perfect, Literally
Monday’s game was not just special for Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels; it was also significant for its lack of turnovers. There were none. It was the first game since 1940 that had no turnovers or punts. So, if it felt like the game went quickly, there’s the reason. Quinn explained the discipline going into Monday night from a game where they only saw penalties and no touchdowns in the red zone against the Giants in Week 2.
In week 2, the Commanders were scoreless, outside of seven field goals and ten penalties, which cost them 69 yards. “The guys worked hard on a silent cadence,” he said. “We know going to Cincinnati on a Monday night was going to be an electric environment, and it was, but we did work hard on that this week. I think It goes back to if you put all the work in during the week when you get to the moment, you can really let it rip.”
Daniels did just that, completing 21 of his 23 passes. He ended the night with a victory on Monday Night Football as a rookie and a 91.3% mark that set the NFL rookie record for completion percentage in a game. The defense kept Bengals QB Joe Burrow at bay and slowed the Bengals offense enough to help Washington rule time possession for another week.
Dan Quinn: RB Austin Eckler Back In Virginia
Dan Quinn confirmed Tuesday that Running back Austin Eckler suffered from a concussion Monday night, along with an ear laceration. According to Quinn, Eckler headed back to Virginia to begin concussion protocols. Eckler was ruled out late in Monday’s game and escorted to the locker room.
Ekeler carried three for 35 yards and one touchdown before leaving the game due to the injury. The incident occurred early in the third quarter on a first down carry inside the 10-yard line. Ekeler gained three yards but took a hit to the head as he went down. He was slow to get up and needed assistance leaving the field.
