Several moves have been made around the NFL in the last several weeks. Mainly filling positions such as head coaching jobs. Within 24 hours, the Washington Commanders have decided to hire Dan Quinn as their new head coach. Quinn previously left another NFC team, the Dallas Cowboys.
Dan Quinn’s Last Coaching Stint
Before taking the new job as the Washington Commanders head coach, Dan Quinn spent the last three seasons with the Cowboys. He was the defensive coordinator under current head coach Mike McCarthy. This season, the Cowboys defense ranked fifth in scoring and yards. Over the last few seasons, Dallas has been in the top 10 overall defensively.

Quinn made the decision to return to Dallas in 2023 before exploring other options around the league. His defense did take the Cowboys to playoffs this past season but lost to the Green Bay Packers in the Wild Card round. Their defense did not show up to play in their last game.
Ron Rivera With The Washington Commanders
This hire of Dan Quinn comes after Washington let go of Ron Rivera. The Washington Commanders front office chose to do that after their season ended. They held a 4-13 record under Rivera in 2023. The franchise has not had a winning record since 2016 or a playoff win since 2005.
Though Rivera has coaching experience, he could not fulfill his duties in Washington. Now they have inserted Dan Quinn. Their new head coach will have some things cut out for him as he heads into 2024!
Washington’s Concerns in 2024
Dan Quinn will have his hands full in the upcoming NFL season with the Washington Commanders. It will first start at quarterback on the offensive side. But the team does have the number two pick in the 2024 NFL draft overall. They must pick a guy they think will be solid and lead the offense in Washington.
Of course, Quinn’s known for his defensive expertise. Now, he is in charge of an entire team once again. The only thing is that the Washington Commanders must start fresh with another head coach. One good thing is the NFC is not unfamiliar to Dan Quinn, but coaching another team entirely for the first time in three years may be an adjustment.
