Safety Damar Hamlin’s life changed on that date. Many insiders thought that Hamlin’s career would be over after the “Monday Night Football” game against the Cincinnati Bengals. While at the moment, football wasn’t what mattered. Hamlin’s health was in serious question marks. Hamlin was rushed off the field via ambulance to a local hospital in Cincy. No. 3 had gone into commotio cordis. It is an extremely rare situation where the rhythm of the heart is affected.

Damar Hamlin rehabbed his way back to opening his eyes, eating again, learning to walk, and playing football again. In 2024, he was granted the starting free safety position for the Buffalo Bills. After the departures of Micah Hyde and Jordan Poyer, Damar would make his first NFL start since his cardiac arrest. Through two games, Hamlin has held his own. Midway through the second quarter of Buffalo’s Week 3 Monday night game against the Jacksonville Jaguars, Hamlin recorded his first career interception.

Midway through the second quarter, Jacksonville quarterback Trevor Lawrence dropped back to pass. The pass was intended to go to wide receiver Brian Thomas Jr., but the pass was overthrown. Damar Hamlin stepped in front of the pass and picked it off. The crowd erupted and “Bills Mafia” members went crazy. Chants of “No. 3” rang throughout HighMark Stadium. The Buffalo Bills medical staff had an incredible moment with Hamlin where he hugged the athletic trainer who saved his life.

Final Thoughts

Buffalo’s defense has been on fire through three games, but their offense is even scarier. The Bills led 34-3 at halftime of the Bills’ game against the Jacksonville Jaguars. Buffalo has scored five touchdowns with five different players. Many have wondered if quarterback Josh Allen would be able to take the Bills to the Super Bowl without wide receiver Stefon Diggs, whom the team traded to the Houston Texans in the offseason. The team seems fine without him.
