Ex-Dallas Mavericks prospect shooting guard Dexter Dennis recently signed with the Sacramento Kings. Dennis, 25, has reportedly agreed to an Exhibit 10 contract with the Kings, per Spotrac’s Keith Smith.
Dennis, who went undrafted at the 2023 NBA Draft, first signed an Exhibit 10 contract with the Dallas Mavericks on September 22, 2023, before his contract was converted to a two-way contract. The Mavericks waived him on December 28, 2023, to make room for point guard Brandon Williams. Williams, 24, is still with the Mavericks.
Dennis spent some time with the Mavericks’ NBA G-League affiliate, the Texas Legends, before being acquired by the Cleveland Charge in exchange for the rights to forward Fabian White Jr. and a 2024 first-round pick. White Jr., 25, currently plays for the BSL’s Manisa Basket. Here’s what you need to know.
Dexter Dennis’ New Contract With Sacramento Kings
Dexter Dennis, a Baker, Louisiana, native, recently signed with the Sacramento Kings, but it remains unclear if he’ll stick around in Sacramento for the long run. Dennis was reportedly traded to the Kings’ NBA G-League affiliate, the Stockton Kings, on September 11, 2023.
If things work out in Sacramento, Dennis can potentially become a three-and-D wing who could get a chance on a two-way contract, thanks to his 6’11” wingspan. He most recently played for the Cleveland Charge last season. He averaged 11.6 points, 4.7 rebounds, 1.1 assists, and 0.9 steals on 45.7% from the field and 40.3% from three on 4.8 attempts per game in 29 minutes through 15 games.
Dexter Dennis’ Previous Signing With Dallas Mavericks
Texas A&M alum Dexter Dennis’ previous signing with the Dallas Mavericks was similar to his current contract with the Sacramento Kings, as both are two-way contracts.
The NBA’s training camps are just around the corner — and NBA teams, including the Kings, are looking to fill out their rotations with Exhibit 10 contracts so they can maintain their NBA G-League rights in case they don’t make their respective teams. That’s the current situation for Dennis, who appeared in four games for the Mavericks and 29 games for the Texas Legends.
Dexter Dennis’ Time With Dallas Mavericks
The 2022 AAC Defensive Player of the Year Dexter Dennis’ time with the Dallas Mavericks was short-lived but meaningful. Dennis scored 22 points in four games for the Mavericks, which included an 18-point performance in a 122-96 blowout loss to the Houston Rockets on December 22, 2023.
Dennis can serve as a defensive wing with occasional flashes of offense in Sacramento as he did in Dallas. The Sacramento Kings already have shooting guard Keon Ellis, but they might also view Dennis as a young player who could crack their future rotation like they view Ellis, 24.
