Dallas Mavericks’ Olivier-Maxence Prosper Now Wears No. 8

The Dallas Mavericks Olivier-Maxence Prosper has changed his number.

The Dallas Mavericks are preparing for training camp on the UNLV campus in Las Vegas, Nevada, from October 1-4. After a three-day appearance in Las Vegas, the Mavericks will return to the American Airlines Center in Dallas, Texas, where they’ll host the Memphis Grizzlies in a preseason opener on October 7.

There have been quite a few headlines surrounding the Mavericks entering training camp, including a red-hot headline about how Shooting Guard Jaden Hardy will reportedly be facing the most pressure. That is due to his role in question after General Manager Nico Harrison’s effort to bring in more quality guard play.

When it comes to the Mavericks’ headlines, Forward Olivier-Maxence Prosper’s recent jersey number change from No. 18 to No. 8 is just as interesting of a headline. Read on for further details surrounding Prosper’s jersey number change.

Olivier-Maxence Prosper’s Basics

There aren’t many details surrounding Olivier-Maxence Prosper, but he’s a 22-year-old forward with plenty of potential in the NBA. Prosper is from Montreal, Quebec, Canada, but played high school basketball at the Lake Forest Academy in Lake Forest, Illinois, and the NBA Academy Latin America in Mexico City, Mexico. He played college basketball at Clemson and Marquette.

Prosper, who stands 6-foot-7 and weighs 230 pounds, can become a 3-and-D player in Dallas. He didn’t shine in his rookie season in 2023-24 after he converted just 29% of his three-point attempts. Prosper’s time with the NBA G League has been promising so far. Prosper averaged 18.3 points and 7.8 rebounds per game and converted on 43% of the 5.3 three-point attempts for the Texas Legends.

Maxence Prosper’s Statistics

Olivier-Maxence Prosper’s NBA statistics weren’t good or great in Year 1, but his NBA G League statistics were fine in the same year. Prosper’s NBA G League statistics aren’t proof of his potential as an NBA player. However, Prosper’s statistics were a significant improvement after averaging just 1.0 rebounds and 0.3 assists per game for the Dallas Mavericks.

As Prosper heads into training camp, at least there’s some merit on the table, as some are better than none. Prosper’s arguably a player to keep an eye on, as he’s a strong perimeter defender who can guard most positions on the court.

Maxence Prosper’s Year 2 Preview

Olivier-Maxence Prosper, who the Dallas Mavericks selected with the 24th overall pick in the first round of the 2023 NBA Draft, will head into Year 2 shortly. Prosper will likely be a depth player for the Mavericks’ roster, so his services won’t be an immediate need.

The Mavericks strengthened their roster after a 2024 NBA Finals appearance against the Boston Celtics. The Mavericks’ new core of Luka Doncic, Kyrie Irving, and Klay Thompson will be exciting, as long as Thompson stays healthy and shoots consistently well. But, in an emergency, Prosper should be a serviceable player alongside Doncic, Irving, and Thompson in 2024-2025.
