The Dallas Mavericks are optimistic about Kyrie Irving’s hand injury recovery after they originally hoped that his left hand injury would be fully healed by the beginning of their training camp.
Irving, 32, underwent surgery to repair a broken left hand that he sustained during an off-season workout on July 16, 2024.
According to Sports Illustrated, NBA reporter Marc Stein clarified further the Mavericks’ situation with Irving on the new “DLLS Mavs Podcast” in recent days. Here are the details so you can make an informed decision.
Marc Stein Clarifies Dallas Mavericks’ Situation
As mentioned in the introduction, Marc Stein clarified the Dallas Mavericks’ current situation with veteran guard Kyrie Irving. Irving has been a member of the Mavericks since 2023.
Stein said on the “DLLS Mavs Podcast” that Irving is still on track to be a full participant in the Mavericks’ training camp.
Stein continued, “At this point, he has not been cleared yet for full 5-on-5 hoop, but basically what I’ve been told is he remains on course to be cleared in time for training camp so I don’t think there’s any concern there.”
Stein’s recent statements were legitimate and hopefully provided Mavericks fans and reporters with a sense of optimism about Irving’s status ahead of the 2024-25 NBA season. Irving has reportedly been in positive spirits since his surgery in mid-July.
Kyrie Irving Joins the Dallas Mavericks in LA
Sports Illustrated reported that most of the Dallas Mavericks roster recently gathered in Los Angeles, California, to go through workouts, while bonding as a team. Kyrie Irving also gathered in Los Angeles, which was a positive sign, but it’s unclear whether or not he participated in the Mavericks’ workouts.
Marc Stein said on the “DLLS Mavs Podcast” that the Mavericks’ off-court stuff they did together went even better than their on-court stuff did. Based on Stein’s statement, the 2024-25 Mavericks will be a connected unit, but we’ll see what happens.
Kyrie Irving’s 2023-24 NBA Campaign
Kyrie Irving’s 2023-24 NBA campaign was noteworthy. Irving had a significant bounce-back season after missing the playoffs in his first season with the Dallas Mavericks in 2022-23. Irving’s average of 25.6 points per game helped lead the Mavericks to the 2024 NBA Finals alongside Luka Doncic.
Irving turned negatives into positives after reportedly toxic stints with the Brooklyn Nets and Boston Celtics. The 34-year-old not only achieved success with the Mavericks but also found a home in Dallas, Texas, and even helped recruit Klay Thompson.
Irving is a polarizing player, but he has been bouncing back in Dallas. The Duke men’s basketball alum deserves a second chance for his on-court achievements.
