Dallas Mavericks vs. Indiana Pacers Recap
The Dallas Mavericks hosted the Indiana Pacers in a non-conference game on Monday. Dallas’ injury report saw a late scratch of Dereck Lively II, who was out with a right shoulder strain, on top of Maxi Kleber and Dante Exum remaining out due to a right hamstring strain and a right wrist surgery, respectively. Meanwhile, Indiana’s injury report grew, as James Wiseman and Isaiah Jackson suffered season-ending Achilles tears, while Aaron Nesmith was out with left ankle soreness.
The Mavericks starting lineup consisted of Luka Doncic, Kyrie Irving, Klay Thompson, PJ Washington, and Daniel Gafford. Doncic proved to be quite strong in the first quarter, as he scored a notable two-point field goal. Indiana got off to a fast start with a 15-2 lead in the first quarter. Tyrese Haliburton contributed with a deep three-pointer. The Mavericks made it a two-point game, 27-25, late in the first. PJ Washington scored around the rim to help the Mavericks. But the Pacers fought back and the Mavericks trailed 36-29 at the end of the first.
The Mavericks and Pacers scored two points apiece to start the second quarter. Klay Thompson hit a noteworthy three-pointer to help the Mavericks pick up the pace but the home team trailed 63-59 at the halftime break. Klay Thompson quickly made it rain in the third quarter with an early three-pointer from downtown. Thompson’s show continued, but Luka Doncic also made his plays look easy. The Mavericks trailed 96-95 after three quarters.
The Pacers hit the 100-point plateau midway through the fourth quarter. Spencer Dinwiddie’s floater tied the game 114-114 after the 10-minute mark of the fourth. Bennedict Mathurin shook up Luka Doncic late in the fourth. The Mavericks ended up 134-127 in regulation.
Dallas Mavericks vs. Indiana Pacers Highlights
The Dallas Mavericks and Indiana Pacers game featured a wide range of highlights starting with Naji Marshall’s big bucket in the first quarter. Marshall took seven games to hit a three-pointer, but he finally hit a three after missing his first nine three-point attempts this year.
For the Mavericks, Spencer Dinwiddie had a beautiful crossover that turned into a big-time layup in the second quarter. Dinwiddie may be a journeyman, but his wide range of services can help the Mavericks in more ways than one. The Mavericks can arguably use more of Dinwiddie’s versatility. For the Pacers, Myles Turner hit a three-pointer to help him reach 8,000 career points. Turner is a Bedford, Texas, native who attended the University of Texas from 2014-15 before being selected 11th overall by the Pacers in the 2015 NBA Draft.
In Case You Missed It
The Dallas Mavericks defeated the Orlando Magic 108-85 on Sunday night. Luka Doncic led the Mavericks with 32 points. The last time the Magic won at the American Airlines Center, the Mavericks were en route to an NBA championship. The date was January 8, 2011, and Jason Kidd was a Point Guard in Dallas.
After the Mavericks vs. Magic game, Doncic went viral for his trash-talk tactic — speaking in German — to Moritz and Franz Wagner, two German brothers who play Center and Small Forward, respectively, and Forward Tristan Da Silva. The 25-year-old reportedly heard the Wagner’s and Da Silva talking in German, so he chimed in with his limited German as a polyglot who can speak Slovenian, Serbian, Spanish, and English.
Former Mavericks General Manager Donnie Nelson’s lawsuit against the Mavericks was “dismissed with prejudice,” according to documents filed in Dallas County court records. Nelson notified the court Thursday that he is taking a nonsuit on his claims against all defendants. The case had been scheduled to go to trial on December 10, 2024.
ESPN reported in the lawsuit, which was filed in March 2022, Nelson claimed he was fired by the Mavericks in retaliation after he reported that then-majority owner Mark Cuban’s “right-hand person” allegedly sexually harassed Nelson’s nephew in a hotel room during the 2020 NBA All-Star Weekend in Chicago. The Mavericks will host the Chicago Bulls on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. Central. The Bulls lost to the Utah Jazz 135-126 on Monday night. Chicago fell to 3-4, while Utah improved to 1-6 to snap a six-game skid.
