Dallas Mavericks Aim For Fast Start In 2024-25 NBA Season

The Dallas Mavericks begin their regular season tonight.

The Dallas Mavericks aim for a fast start early in the 2024-25 NBA season. The Mavericks want to return to the NBA Finals and perhaps win the Finals in 2025. But first, the Mavericks’ primary focus should be to avoid joking around and embark on a successful journey, including the team’s chemistry with Klay Thompson.

Last season, the Dallas Mavericks averaged 117.9 points per game, including 47.4 points in the paint, 16.5 points off turnovers, and 15.8 points on fast breaks. The Mavericks went 50-32 overall, including 11-5 in Southwest Division play, and 25-15 at home. Here’s what you need to know about the team before the new NBA season.

Luka Doncic Puts Dallas Mavericks Fans At Ease

On Tuesday, Mavs.com reported that Luka Doncic, Kyrie Irving, and Klay Thompson still haven’t played a game together, but have been practicing as a trio in recent days. Doncic, 25, had six words for the Dallas Mavericks fans, “It’s gonna be fun out there.”

Doncic’s six-word sentence should put Dallas Mavericks fans at ease. The Mavericks enter the 2024-25 NBA season as the reigning Western Conference Champions. The expectations are high, but the Mavericks have been projected to be one of the strongest teams in the NBA this season, so we’ll keep an eye on the Mavericks’ performances.

It has been reported that Doncic will play in the Mavericks’ regular season opener against the San Antonio Spurs on Thursday. Doncic’s left calf contusion has been bothering him but he has been practicing with the Mavericks at the team’s training facility in Dallas.

After a recent robust workout for all Mavericks players, the 25-year-old told Mavs.com, “I think we’re practicing great. I think we’re ready … We got to show every day what kind of players we are, what we’re working for. Our mission is to set the tone early and (make sure) people know we’re there. We’re not joking around. One thing: we got to play hard. That’s it.”

Kyrie Irving’s Two Words For Mavericks

Mavs.com reported that Kyrie Irving had two words for the Dallas Mavericks on Monday. Irving, 32, said, “consistency” and “discipline.” The 32-year-old added, “We’re in a great place right now … I think a lot of us are motivated, we’re focused, we’re driven, we have our priorities straight, and we’re just ready for another long journey.”

Irving can be trusted to answer questions about the Mavericks’ temperament before the regular season. As one of the Mavericks captains, Irving’s veteran leadership, and urging his teammates to buckle up and prepare for another aggressive and gritty run to the NBA Finals, can steer the team in the right direction to get the job done.

Mavericks’ Home Opener Information

The Dallas Mavericks will open the 2024-25 NBA season with a home opener against the San Antonio Spurs at the American Airlines Center on Thursday at 6:30 p.m. Central. The Mavericks will be without Dante Exum, who suffered a serious right wrist injury and underwent wrist surgery. Exum, 29, is expected to be sidelined for at least three months.

Last season, the Spurs averaged 112.1 points per game and shot 46.2% from the field and 34.7% from behind the arc. The Spurs finished 22-60 overall, 3-13 in Southwest Division action, and 10-31 on the road. The Spurs’ rebuild is far from over, but the team isn’t in tanking mode. The two teams will likely give each other a hard time.
