The Dallas Mavericks had a good postseason run while it lasted. The Mavericks suffered a heartbreaking blowout by the Boston Celtics 106-88 in Game 5 of the NBA Finals at TD Garden. It seemed to be utter heartbreak for the Mavericks, who showed their fight and muscles and punched their tickets to the 2024 NBA Finals, only to fade away against an all-around good Celtics team.
Chances are, the Celtics’ blowout will linger in the Mavericks’ minds this summer, but the latter had some things to be proud of this regular season and postseason. The Mavericks became Western Conference Champions in an arguably competitive Western Conference in the 2023-2024 NBA season. The Mavericks also appeared to find a playing style that could continue to work for the next few years.
Without further ado, these are the Mavericks’ potential needs in the 2024 NBA offseason.
Three Dallas Mavericks Role Players Are Fading Away
The Mavericks have seen some role players, such as Dereck Lively II, Daniel Gafford, and PJ Washington, find their mojo. Overall, the team morale should be high after reaching the NBA Finals when no one expected the Mavs to be one of the contenders. They can build on it for the upcoming season and try to better the previous result.
The Mavericks have also seen some role players, such as Tim Hardaway Jr., Josh Green, and Maxi Kleber, fade away. Hardaway Jr., Green, and Kleber are all under contract for $39 million plus in the 2024-2025 NBA season, so there’s a chance that Dallas will move at least one of the three players next offseason.
The Mavericks made it to the NBA Finals this year. Only time will tell, but Dallas should start its search for new role players who would improve themselves while improving the team, as it’s important to provide Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving with an improved supporting cast this coming season. It’s also important to note Irving, 32, is arguably still in his prime, but might not make his mark within five years.
Dallas Mavericks Should Focus on the 2024 NBA Draft
The Dallas Mavericks should focus on the 2024 NBA Draft.
This year’s NBA Draft is just around the corner. The first round will be on Wednesday, June 26, at Barclays Center, and the second on Thursday, June 27, at ESPN’s Seaport District Studies.
The Mavericks have the 58th overall pick in the first round of the 2024 NBA Draft. The NBA placed the Mavericks last due to their recent success this past season. The Mavericks might want to select an older, more experienced player like Jamal Shead, Reece Beekman, or Jalen Bridges for their skills.
Dallas Mavericks Could Benefit From 3-and-D Players
The Dallas Mavericks could benefit from some 3-and-D players from all positions.
In case you didn’t know, 3-and-D players of all positions specialize in three-point shooting and high-level defense to counter the opposing team’s top offensive players. 3-and-D players are sought after by many NBA teams, as the specific skill sets of these namesake players have been increasingly valuable over the 21st century.
The Mavericks should follow in other NBA teams’ footsteps soon. The Mavericks arguably have several timid players who don’t appear ready to pull the trigger whenever they’re open on the court, and the Mavericks’ future can change with a 3&D player or two.
