Dallas Cowboys All-Pro Teases Possible Retirement At The End Of The 2024 Season

Dallas Cowboys hire Mike Zimmer as the new DC, Zack Martin

The Dallas Cowboys go into the 2024 season with an enormous amount of pressure. The future of the team is uncertain. Dak Prescott, CeeDee Lamb, and Micah Parsons do not have new contracts. While it seems likely they will be re-signed, nothing is guaranteed until the pen hits the paper. There is another key part of the offense that could be gone after the 2024 season. All-Pro guard Zack Martin teased a possible retirement in a recent interview.

In an interview with Michael Gehlken of the Dallas Morning News, Dallas Cowboys offensive lineman Zack Martin gave his thoughts on retirement. He didn’t commit to one way or the other but said that retiring after this season is definitely a possibility.

“I’m not saying 100 percent, but I think it’s definitely in the realm of possibilities. And that’s one thing I don’t want to do. For myself, I don’t want to be thinking, ‘Oh, this is it. This is it.’ I want to stay in the moment, and I want to play the best that I can play at this point and be the best right guard this team needs on a weekly basis. And then after the season, we’ll figure out what’s going on.”

Zack Martin is focused on this season. He will consider his future plans after the season is all done. Martin turns 34 in November, so retirement isn’t out of the question. Some players decide to retire earlier due to the wear and tear on their bodies. However, the Dallas Cowboys will likely do everything they can to make sure they can keep Martin on the roster.

One Of The Best Linemen In Team History

The Dallas Cowboys have had no shortage of stellar offensive linemen. Zack Martin might be the best in team history. In seven of his ten seasons, he has been named first-team All-Pro. He is currently on a three year streak of the league’s highest honor. In addition to the first team selections, he also has been named second-team twice in his career. The 2020 season when Martin was injured was the only time he did not receive All-Pro honors.

If Zack Martin retires at the end of the season, the Dallas Cowboys have a huge hole to fill. They haven’t had to worry about their interior line for awhile. With all the other unknowns, the fear would be this position would be ignored. It is worth noting the Cowboys did focus on the offensive line in this year’s draft so they may already be preparing for this. However, no matter how good the next person is, losing Martin would be a gut punch.
