Dallas Cowboys $17 million Star Skipping Out Amidst Contract Squabble

Dallas Cowboys CeeDee Lamb

Yet another unsettled Dallas Cowboys offseason is in full swing. As voluntary offseason workouts being, all is not well deep in the heart of Texas.

Three months after the team suffered yet another ignominious playoff ouster, one of the team’s main talents is M.I.A. as owner Jerry Jones’ club begins preparations for the 2024 campaign.

Wide receiver CeeDee Lamb, who is entering the final year of his rookie contract, is sitting out the team’s traditional April get-together. Lamb is awaiting word of a new, long-term contract as he is set to earn $17.99 million on the fifth-year option of his current deal.

Dallas Cowboys Not Concerned as of Yet

Lamb’s no-show for the offseason program is not of particular concern to the Dallas Cowboys at this juncture. Monday’s opening of the team facility in Frisco, Tex., is fully voluntary as Phase I of the program. Players attending take part in workouts, team meetings and rehab.

Attendance does not become mandatory until June, when the Dallas Cowboys open mandatory minicamp. If Lamb were to continue sitting out at that point, he would be subject to fines in excess of $100,000.

Lamb has reportedly already been working out with quarterback Dak Prescott and other members of the team’s offense this offseason, just not at the team’s facility.

Lamb Reportedly Wants to Stay With Dallas Cowboys

Lamb has been a focal point of the Dallas Cowboys offense since the team picked him 17th overall in the 2020 NFL Draft. He has topped 1,000 yards in three of his four NFL seasons, logging a league-high 135 receptions last season for a career-best 1,749 yards and 12 touchdowns.

The 2023 All-Pro reportedly wishes to stay with the only NFL team he has played for, telling TMZ recently:

“Yeah, I’ll be in Dallas!”

It’s a mutual wish, as the Dallas Cowboys have also expressed a desire to re-sign the 25-year-old three-time Pro Bowler. However, contract talks have not progressed this offseason.
