Dallas Cowboys Defensive End Feared To Have Torn ACL

The Dallas Cowboys Have a New Playmaker! Sam Williams, Jordan Phillips

The Dallas Cowboys are under pressure to perform in 2024. They made very few changes to their team this offseason. This isn’t a horrible strategy, as this team performed well and was the second seed in the NFC. However, Dallas hasn’t been able to win when it matters most. Their 2024 campaign is about to get more difficult. Defensive end Sam Williams is feared to have torn his ACL in practice today.

NFL insider Tom Pelissero reported that Dallas Cowboys defensive end Sam Williams got carted off the field at Sunday’s practice. The second-round pick from 2022 was blocking during a special teams drill and fell to the ground, holding his left knee. It is never a good sign when a player is not able to leave under his own power. An ACL tear is feared, but an MRI on Monday will confirm the team’s suspicions. Even if it isn’t an ACL injury, he will likely miss significant time.

This is a huge blow for the Dallas Cowboys. Williams was a key part of the pass rush rotation. Micah Parsons and Demarcus Lawrence are the stars, but every team has valuable depth pieces. The challenge for the team is to find the player who will step up to fill the void. In his career, he has 8.5 sacks, 16 QB hits, 15 tackles for loss and 48 tackles. Key injuries have derailed them in the past, and this year looks to be a case of deja vu.

2024 Outlook

As with every team in the NFL, when injuries happen, the next man is up. While training camp injuries are always unfortunate, it gives the team time to work with his replacement before week 1. This likely puts more pressure on Parsons and Lawrence to get to the quarterback. The good news for the defense is the offense is looking to have another dominant year.

Don’t let how they ended last year fool you. The Dallas Cowboys had an elite offense last season led by the combination of Dak Prescott and CeeDee Lamb. While Ezekiel Elliott is past his prime, he still has plenty to give this team, especially in the red zone. While there are some contracts to figure out, the Cowboys should have one of the best offenses in the NFC this year yet again. The Sam Williams news is a big blow. Defensive coordinator Mike Zimmer will need to make some tweaks to make sure this defense can shut down the best offenses in the league.
