The Dallas Cowboys have had a drama-filled season. “America’s Team” always has drama, but this year has been even more. The team started out poor, getting blown out at home multiple times. Key players like Dak Prescott, Zack Martin, and Trevon Diggs have been lost for the season due to injury. Owner Jerry Jones had to defend against putting curtains up to block the sun. Amidst all of this, star pass rusher Micah Parsons has been involved in trade rumors. He is due for an extension but has not signed anything yet. After the game today, he addressed those rumors.
Dallas Cowboys Micah Parsons On Trade Rumors
To be clear, the Dallas Cowboys have given no indication they plan to trade Micah Parsons. Most of the chatter comes from an NFL Network report about the contract situation. This offseason, the Cowboys gave Prescott and CeeDee Lamb massive extensions, but Parsons was left out. The team will have to deal with the salary cap implications of having another expensive player if they sign their star pass rusher. After their victory over the Panthers on Sunday, Parsons had this to say.
“I understand how that business side goes. There are no hard feelings in this business, whether I’m here or anywhere else. Obviously I’ve stated that I want to be here. But at the end of the day, I understand the business side.”
I don’t think Micah Parsons is worried about his contract. If the Dallas Cowboys don’t pay him, someone will. He has posted double-digit sacks every season, and injuries are the only reason his streak is in jeopardy. Parsons has 47.0 career sacks and 106 quarterback hits. His advanced stats are even better, showing how he affects the game beyond the stat sheet. Would the Cowboys actually consider trading him?
Would The Cowboys Trade Him?
Here is the case for trading him. To be clear, this isn’t what I think they should do, but here’s the case. This team has a lot of holes on the roster. They need talent, and a lot of it. That talent also has to be cheap because of the contracts already on the books. Teams would trade a boatload of draft capital to acquire a young pass rusher like Micah Parsons. They could trade Parsons and get the draft capital to set them up for years to come.
With that said, the Dallas Cowboys would be stupid to trade him. Edge rusher is a premium position. Being able to disrupt the quarterback is the key to any defense. They will figure out a way to pay him. However, I wouldn’t expect it to be soon. If there was one thing we learned this offseason, it is that Jerry Jones likes to take his time with contracts. It will get done, but it might take some time.
Final Thoughts
The Dallas Cowboys have many decisions to make in the offseason. Micah Parsons is one of the biggest and most obvious. They should sign him up for a long-term deal. Until they do, the trade rumors will continue to swirl.
