Dallas Cowboys Legend Tragically Passes Away At Age 52

The Dallas Cowboys have a long history of great players. While many have poked fun at them recently, you cannot deny their place in NFL history. In the early 1990s, the team was dominating the NFL behind some of the best players in team history. One of those players was offensive lineman Larry Allen. He was one of the best offensive linemen in NFL history and anchored the line for Emmitt Smith and Troy Aikman. Fans were shocked at the news that Allen passed away suddenly at age 52.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter tweeted out the official statement from the Dallas Cowboys. He passed away suddenly while on vacation with his family in Mexico. This is the official statement from the Dallas Cowboys on Larry Allen.

“The Dallas Cowboys are very saddened to share that Cowboys legend, Super Bowl Champion, Cowboys Ring of Honor member, and Pro Football Hall of Famer Larry Allen passed away suddenly while on vacation in Mexico with his family on Sunday. Larry, known for his great athleticism and incredible strength, was one of the most respected, accomplished offensive linemen to ever play in the NFL. His versatility and dependability were also signature parts of his career. Through that, he continued to serve as inspiration for many other players defining what it meant to be a great teammate, competitor and winner.

He was deeply loved and cared for by his wife, Janelle – whom he referred to as his heart and soul, his daughters Jayla and Loriana and son, Larry III.

The Jones family and the Cowboys extend their deepest condolences, thoughts and prayers to the Allen family and grieve along with the many other friends and Cowboys teammates that also loved Larry.

Memorial service arrangements and details will be announced in the near future.”

It is a sad day for all of pro football as Allen was not just a Cowboys legend but an NFL legend. His list of accolades is a lot to cover.

Allen played 14 NFL seasons, with 12 of them being played by the Dallas Cowboys. He is one of three players in franchise history to have double-digit Pro Bowl selections (10), and he added another one during his time with the 49ers. He made seven straight first-team All-Pro teams from 1995-2001. Allen was inducted into the team’s Ring of Honor and was a first-ballot Hall of Famer in 2013.

Additionally, he was named one of the All-Decade teams of the 1990s and 2000s. He has a Super Bowl ring from Super Bowl XXX with the Dallas Cowboys. It is a tragic passing of one of the game’s greats.
