The owner of the Dallas Cowboys, Jerry Jones, made a bold message before the offseason. He said this team was all in after they fell short again in the playoffs. What followed was a letdown for many Cowboys fans. They only signed one player in free agency while losing key depth pieces. The coaching staff and front office have tried to convince everyone that they are confident in the roster, but many are not convinced. Jones doubled down on his support of the roster in a recent interview.
Dallas Cowboys Jerry Jones Is Proud Of The Roster
Jerry Jones is happy with how the roster is shaping up. When he talked to reporters on Tuesday, he doubled down on his all-in claim.
“We’re very proud of this roster. We feel very, very good about the promise of this roster this season. … We feel great about what we’ve been in free agency. We’re all in.”
The Cowboys haven’t been completely absent from free agency. Linebacker Eric Kendricks and running back Royce Freeman have been the only signings. While these are good depth pieces, they hardly move the needle for the team. However, this team already has a lot of talent.
Lots Of Talent
Dak Prescott is a top-half of the league quarterback. His regular season stats have been great over the past three years. CeeDee Lamb cemented himself as a top receiver in the league last year. On defense, Micah Parsons and Trevon Diggs can create problems for opposing offenses. Part of the reason they did not bring in a lot of talent is because they have a ton on the roster already.
Free agency isn’t over, either. Many impact signings have been made after the NFL Draft. Once roster cuts are made, the Dallas Cowboys could find a savvy veteran to fill a need. Speaking of the NFL Draft, the Cowboys can add top-tier talent on Thursday. While they have had questionable drafts the past two years, there is always a chance they find the next great rookie.
What Is Jerry Jones Supposed To Say?
Jerry Jones is an easy target when he makes statements like this. However, what is he supposed to say? Should he come out and say the Dallas Cowboys suck and fans should get ready for another early playoff exit? Of course not! He’s out there hyping up his team. While many are skeptical of what this team will do next year, the owner of the team should be positive about the team’s chances.
It is easy to forget the Dallas Cowboys have been one of the best regular season teams in the past three years. While their playoff struggles are well documented, they have won a lot of games. Jerry Jones believes in this talent and hopes with next year being up in the air, players and coaches play with a sense of urgency. Will the Dallas Cowboys regret not being more aggressive in free agency?
