Dallas Cowboys Defense: A Historic Struggle

The Dallas Cowboys have found themselves in a precarious spot this season. Their defense, heretofore their jewel, is now one to hang its head in shame. After three weeks, the statistics reveal a defense not just struggling but historically bad. Record numbers in every wrong way, fans are scratching their heads on how things can get so wrong for such a team. Once a team that wore its strong defensive identity like a badge, here is an enviable bounce back.

Dallas Cowboys’ Defense in Crisis

It’s impossible to not notice how defensively challenged the Dallas Cowboys have been. Last game against the Baltimore Ravens, the Cowboys allowed 274 rushing yards. To put that in some perspective, that was an average play of over six yards. Needless to say, the final score and the running clock would have anybody a little skeptical, at least regarding the proximity of the score. This game was only part of an alarming trend that has fans concerned about what is to come.

The Dallas Cowboys’ defense permitted 557 rushing yards in just three games. That’s the most since 1963! But that’s not all. They’re averaging 5.4 yards per carry, the worst in the NFL since 1979. Eight rushing touchdowns allowed in just three games set a franchise record for the Cowboys. Those numbers bring a dire portraiture of the painting they put forth and tell it that this is not just a streak; this is a crisis.

Dallas Cowboys Face Leadership Crisis

What is even more disturbing, though, is the apparent power vacuum of leadership from the team. Since back-to-back losses followed, it would mean that the players are not getting the kind of direction they need. The lack of pop-on defense puts an air of uncertainty about what is happening on that field and shows.

It is easy for many fans and analysts to chant that the Dallas Cowboys simply need to make bold moves. As the trading deadline draws near, people get all abuzz talking about needing that big-name defensive tackle. In comes new blood, and perhaps that is what the Dallas Cowboys need to pull this thing together. But it is easier said than done. Some strategic moves must be made by the front office if this team is ever to change course. And they must act quickly, or this season is over as well.

Conclusion

When things are crumbling on the Cowboys’ side, there is hope. There is still time to adjust and come around on both sides of the ball. At least statistically, things cannot get worse. With some strategic changes and renewed determination, the Dallas Cowboys may turn this historic struggle into a comeback story. Fans are all starving to see their team bounce from the ashes again to re-establish itself like the formidable defense powerhouse it once was. The road ahead will not be easy, but there is potential for change.
