Coach Curt Cignetti Could Make Millions If Hoosiers Keep Winning

Curt Cignetti has Indiana in a great position.

Indiana Hoosiers Head Football Coach Curt Cignetti is raising eyebrows with how quickly he has turned the perennial losers into college football’s most surprising success story. Winning on the field translates to millions in the coach’s bank account. Will Indiana be able to keep up their tremendous start to the season?

Indiana’s 6-0 Start Triggers Millions in Potential Bonuses

It’s been a good year for new Indiana Hoosiers Head Coach Curt Cignetti. On the field, the Hoosiers are off to their best start in history. This is only the second Indiana football team to win its first six games. Coach Cignetti’s heavily incentivized contract is packed with potential bonuses based on the Indiana football team’s success. He is already cashing in big time.

$250,000 Raise For Every Bowl Game

With their victory over Northwestern, Indiana is the first FBS team to qualify for a bowl game. That triggers an incentive to extend Coach Curt Cignetti’s contract by an additional year. It also gives him a $250,000 raise. According to reports, that increases the value of Coach Cignetti’s contract by more than $3 million! Not a bad start to his tenure as the leader of Indiana’s football program.

Bonuses For Winning Big Ten Games and Bowls

The fast start also earns Curt Cignetti a $200,000 bowl appearance bonus to be paid after the season. Plus an additional $50,000 if Indiana wins its bowl game. As Indiana continues to rack up Big Ten victories, Cignetti will earn more bonus money. Indiana has already won three Big Ten contests. With Indiana’s fifth conference win, Coach Cignetti receives a $100,000 bonus. Plus an additional $150,000 bonus should Indiana win a sixth conference game.

More Money Based on Final Conference Standings

With a top-six finish in the Big Ten conference standings, Coach Cignetti collects a $250,000 bonus. The better the Hoosiers finish, the more money for Curt Cignetti. A second-place finish leads to a $500,000 bonus. With a Big Ten championship, Cignetti could cash a check for $1,000,000.

Curt Cignetti Will Make At Least $500,000 If Indiana Makes CFP

The financial rewards could get even more lucrative for Coach Cignetti should Indiana qualify for the College Football Playoff (CFP). Making the CFP means a $500,000 bonus. Winning the first-round game would earn Cignetti a $600,000 bonus. Making a semifinal appearance in the CFP gives him a $700,000 bonus. If Indiana makes the National Championship Game, Cignetti may need a bigger vault for all his cash. He’ll collect $1,000,000 for a runner-up finish and $2,000,000 should the Hoosiers win the national championship.

Coach of the Year Awards Mean More Money

And we’re not done yet. Cignetti could earn $50,000 as the Big Ten Coach of the Year. And another $100,000 for winning any one of several National Coach of the Year awards. On top of all that, the budget for football staff – assistant coaches and support staff – increases by $500,000.

While we don’t know the exact financial impact of a winning football program, we can get an idea by looking at the huge haul schools like Michigan and Ohio State rake in. Surely, Indiana University stands to generate many times the bonuses it pays Cignetti in financial rewards for success on the football field. It’s good to be Curt Cignetti. Hoosier fans hope the university pays Cignetti the millions in bonuses he could earn if the Indiana football team keeps winning.
