CU Buffaloes VS NDSU Bison: Electrifying Week 1 Matchup

NDSU Bison are set to take on CU Buffaloes in an Electric Week-1 Match-Up

On Thursday, August 29, North Dakota State will visit Folsom Field to play against the CU Buffaloes. College football analysts are predicting a tight game between the Buffs and Bison. North Dakota State’s new Head Coach, Tim Polasek, faces pressure to keep up with the program’s elite FCS legacy. Colorado head coach Deion Sanders shows respect for Polasek and their staff.

“They’re really darned good,” Sanders said. “I’m mad at (CU athletic director) Rick (George) for putting them on the schedule, to open up with them. Can you give me a layup or something? Those guys are wonderful. Their staff has always been amongst the best. Many people have matriculated from that staff to go to higher levels.

Those kids play their butts off. They play tough. They don’t make many mistakes. They’re accustomed to winning. They don’t give a darned about being at home or on the road. That doesn’t faze them whatsoever. We can’t wait to see them. It’s going to be a phenomenal game, a phenomenal matchup. That program is second to none.”

How will this game go?

What to Expect from Each Team’s Performance

As a FCS school, NDSU is not a stranger to being underestimated. However, the Buffs are well aware of the challenges they face. They know their opener is a challenging win for the team. In recent years, North Dakota State has upset multiple Football Bowl Subdivision teams and has won nine FCS national titles since 2011. NDSU will be the first Football Championship Subdivision Team to visit Folsom Field since 2021 when the Buffaloes defeated in-state enemies Northern Colorado 35-7.

The Buffs are returning to the Big 12 after 13 seasons in the Pac-12. They joined the conference with the University of Arizona, Arizona State University, and the University of Utah. Experts project they’ll finish 11th in the conference standings.

Cornerback (and receiver) Travis Hunter and Quarterback Shedeur Sanders are considered two of the best players in the country, but CU is coming off a 4-8 season (1-8 Pac-12), a key factor in their low ranking. Perhaps Deion Sanders is dealing with rookie mistake syndrome and will swing back into full gear this season. The team is confident in his direction.

CU Faithful Will Be In Rare Form

NDSU can expect a hostile environment from the ever-fervent CU home crowd. The Bisons are missing their best defensive player: All-American Safety Cole Wisniewski. Two of their offensive linemen are set to make their first career college start (Guard Griffen Empey and Center Trent Fraley). The Bisons are coming off an 11-4 season. They lost in the FCS semifinals. Both teams are competitive and eager to prove themselves as the best this season.
