CU Buffaloes vs. NDSU Bisons: Mile-High Stars QB Battle

CU Buffaloes take on NDSU Bison in electric season opener NFL Draft Travis Hunter

Colorado Buffaloes and North Dakota State University finished a tight season opener on Folsom field tonight. NDSU faced the consequences of missing their best defensive player: All-American Safety Cole Wisniewski. The Buffaloes closed the game with an impressive 31-26 final score. If you couldn’t see the game, here’s everything you need to know.

Shedeur Sanders Earns His Stardom

Shedeur Sanders showcased his excellence in his quick passing skills and field awareness. CU’s offense started strong, with their first two drives ending in a touchdown. Sanders went four for four on the drive. Throughout the game, Colorado made many more deep and medium pass plays.

On defense, Colorado exemplified their tight man-to-man coverage. QB Cam Miller plays slower passes but proves his strength and elusiveness. He finished the game with 16 carries, 81 rushing yards, and two TDs. Last year, he had 13 rushing touchdowns with only four interceptions. Cam Miller struggled to make significant passing gains down the field but used his scrambling abilities to escape pressure, continually moving the chains. Defensive player Travis Hunter held back NDSU from making substantial gains.

NDSU showed their toughness. In the first half, they switched between backup Cole Payton and Miller, intimidating the defense with diverse offensive formations. Sanders was sacked and kept in the pocket far more than Miller. Early in the second quarter, Sanders came out for what looked like a leg injury (limping). He returned the following drive. Sanders was the most sacked quarterback in the FBS last year. During tonight’s game, he threw his 100th touchdown pass of his career.

Sanders beamed with confidence, but a well-rounded team supported Miller. Sanders and Hunter appeared as stars, while NDSU was balanced. As football analysts predicted, the game was tight. The momentum swung back and forth throughout. CU came together in the end, dispelling suspicion that they are a total unit with more than a couple of star players. They feel comfortable in the Big 12 this year.

Week-1 CU VS NDSU Passing Attack Shoot-Out

Travis Hunter proves himself to be a dominant player on defense and offense. The Buffs finished with 445 passing yards and 4 passing TDs, all led by Sanders. Hunter also demonstrated academic excellence, with a 4.0 GPA in the spring. Players like him prove the success of well-rounded players.

NDSU’s offense line proved to be one of the most competitive in the NCAA. They consistently protected Miller and shut down the Buffs’ defense. However, by the second half, the Buffs star-powered offense dominated. NCDU finished with 292 passing yards and 157 rushing yards. Miller consistently avoided sacks and minimized lost yardage. The dominant passing performance overshadowed both team’s running backs.

Both teams played as though they could take the lead at any moment. The final result was tight, down to the last play. Miller threw a completion to Tyler Herhark for 49 yards within 4 yards of the endzone. Due to their mentor-pupil relationship, Schrader showed up for his signature “Brady time.” Indeed, Schadeur looked a lot like Tom Brady. His stats tell the same story. He made deep gains throughout the game. He’s on track to be a leading gunslinger in the NCAA.

Conclusion

Colorado’s defense overpowered NDSU in the second half. Colorado secured a two-score lead in the fourth quarter. The Buffs are bouncing back from their 4-8 season and are on track to being a dominant force this season. NDSU continues to be a competitive team and is more than meets the eye. Next week, the Buffs will visit Nebraska. The Bison are welcoming Tennesse State into their home turf.
