Conor McGregor is undoubtedly the biggest star that the sport of MMA has ever seen. Despite being out of action for over two years now, the Irishman has managed to stay relevant and fans are eager to see him back in action.
McGregor’s last fight was back in July 2021 against Dustin Poirier. The bout which was a trilogy between the two was ended via doctor’s stoppage after the Irishman broke his foot. Interestingly, ‘The Notorious’ was due to return next year against Michael Chandler. The two served as opposing coaches on ‘The Ultimate Fighter’, but the bout was never made official.
While Conor McGregor confirmed earlier this year that he will return in the summer, it now looks like his return is delayed further.
Dana White gives potential timeline for Conor McGregor’s return
Despite all the rumors surrounding Conor McGregor’s return in the summer this year, Dana White has suggested the opposite. During a recent conversation with Pat McAfee, White suggested that he remains hopeful that McGregor vs. Chandler will take place this year but claimed that it could be much later in the year. He said:
“Eventually, yeah, hopefully, this year. There is no date. I’m hoping for the fall. We get it done in the fall.”

That said, it’s safe to say that there is a lot of uncertainty surrounding McGregor’s UFC return as of now. It will be interesting to see if the Irishman can potentially return to winning ways upon his comeback.
Did Conor McGregor miss out on the list of highest-paid athletes in 2023?
Yes, McGregor did miss out on Sportico’s recently released list of highest-paid athletes last year. What came as a surprise to many, isn’t a shock because he did not compete throughout last year. For those unaware, the Irishman topped the list just two years ago as he collected $180 million from the Proper No. 12 Whisky brand sale in 2021.
Interestingly, there was just one combat sports athlete in the top 20 and it was Canelo Alvarez. The Mexican ranked 17 on the list with his $66 million earnings in 2023. Overall, the list was topped by Portuguese footballing superstar Cristiano Ronaldo who earned a whopping $275 million last year.
