Connecticut Sun Seeking Fourth Straight Victory
The Connecticut Sun posted a 9-0 record through their first nine games of the season. They were the only undefeated team at that moment in time. However, they suffered an 82-75 loss to the New York Liberty on June 8th.
But as good teams do, they have responded quite nicely since that minor setback. Over their past three outings, they have defeated the Indiana Fever (89-72), Chicago Sky (83-75), and most recently, the Dallas Wings (85-67) on Saturday. In that contest, Five Sun players scored in double figures.
Rachel Banham scored 16 points off the bench, connecting on five of her eight attempts from the field. She also tallied three rebounds and two assists. Dijonai Carrington added 14 points. Alyssa Thomas, who can put up a triple-double on any given night, finished with 13 points, nine rebounds, and nine assists. DeWanna Bonner — who is the team’s leading scorer — finished with just eight points while missing seven of her 10 attempts from the field.
Boasting the top defense in the association, Connecticut Sun held Dallas to 37.7 percent shooting overall and a paltry 1-for-16 from beyond the arc.
Los Angeles Sparks Look To Snap Three-Game Skid
Meanwhile, the Los Angeles Sparks’ season has not gone too well. First, they dropped four of their first five games. Then, they followed that up with a stretch in which they have managed just three wins across their last ten outings.
Additionally, the Sparks enter this matchup on a three-game losing streak. This includes a recent 87-74 defeat at the hands of the Atlanta Dream on Sunday. In that contest, Cameron Brink, the second overall pick in this year’s draft, scored 16 points and pulled down seven rebounds.
Rickea Jackson also finished with 16 points, along with three rebounds and two assists. Dearica Hamby — who is averaging 19 points and 11 rebounds per contest this season — finished with 10 points and eight rebounds. But she shot just 3-for-14 from the field, and she missed all three of her attempts from deep.
Can the offensively-challenged Sparks generate enough scoring against the league’s top-ranked defense, or will the Connecticut Sun hand the road team its fourth straight loss?
