Washington Commanders Head Coach Dan Quinn doesn’t worry about the excitement because he’s too focused. This Sunday might change that. In what could be one of the most important games of their season, the Commanders face the Baltimore Ravens on Sunday. Both are atop their division and have two of the most explosive quarterbacks in the league right now. Both are looking for national dominance. This isn’t just another NFL game, it’s a warning to all teams to be faced in the weeks ahead.
The Commanders enter this game mastering the art of third down stops, while the Ravens hold games close. They also have seasoned veteran Running Back Derrick Henry, rushing with terrifying stats. In his last season with the Tennessee Titans, a team he’s played with since 2016, he carried 280 for 1,167 yards. This season, his first year with the Ravens, he’s carried 95 times for 572 yards. Henry will be a problem, but starting Quarterback Jayden Daniels will be the reason the city of Baltimore doesn’t take a Sunday nap.
HC Dan Quinn: Daniels Redefines ‘Normal’
Speaking to the media after their final practice of the week Friday, Commanders Head Coach Dan Quinn talked about team and readiness. When asked about Jayden Daniels and if he’s more “locked in” he said, “I wouldn’t say more because the normal is remarkable….” It’s not just remarkable, it’s unheard of. From his cool demeanor on the field to his record-breaking/setting five games of his first season, Daniels is not just making noise, he’s drowning out all the other NFL conversations.
Daniels has a completion percentage of 77.1%, for 1,135 yards, with four touchdowns and two interceptions. He’s also added 300 yards on 57 carries with four touchdowns on the ground. With that comes comparisons, something Daniels is not a fan of. Those comparisons go beyond his Sunday opponent, Ravens Quarterback Lamar Jackson. Fans and pundits alike also compare him to Bears Quarterback Caleb Williams. Bears General Manager Ryan Poles speaking with the media earlier this week, somewhat dismissed those comparisons. ESPN’s Courtney Cronin shared his thoughts on X:
“The human side of it is you want your guy to just take off and roll, but everyone’s journey is gonna be different. I think the important thing is for Caleb to understand that as well and run his own race, and he’s done that well in terms of just focusing on how can I get better, how can I put our team in a position to win games.”
Quinn Does Not Want Comparisons
Dan Quinn is not a fan either. When it comes to the competitive nature of both Jackson and Daniels, Dan Quinn has no issue with it. “I really love the competitive nature of both of them. Past that their games are different,” he said. Dan Quinn also said they’ve prepped for Jackson like every other team in the league. He didn’t give away any ideas on how they plan to stop Henry but recognized he’s a special player. “He’s unique. They’ve got a number of unique guys. Each week brings unique challenges, ” Quinn said.
Quinn’s Favorite Part Of The Season
Being 4-1 is exciting, but it’s not Dan Quinn’s favorite part. He likes how the team, comprised of faces and staff is connecting. “The team is connecting quick. They’ve put aside normal feeling-out processes or agendas on what’s important to them and it’s been about their group,” he said, adding, “That’s been my favorite part of our team right now is the team…to see the way they support one another on the field on the sidelines….that isn’t easy with 70 people and coaches to get relationship and connections together so you have to be deliberate about it.”
Dan Quinn recognizes from his previous coaching experiences how unique the chemistry is and said the team’s bonding is moving quickly. He’s been a head coach before, and a defensive coordinator. “Knowing more established teams maybe at three or four years together you have that…this team is capturing how to do that and fast-tracking those relationships …they have bonded, they have connected, and they really want to play hard for one another…the more they play together, the more they’ll do that.”
Friday Injury Update
According to Dan Quinn, Commanders Running Back Brian Robison Jr. is still being evaluated. He said Robison will be watched up to game time. He doesn’t feel the injury is long-term. “We wouldn’t put him out there if that was the case.” According to their Week 6 Injury Report, Robinson is dealing with a knee issue and did not practice Friday.
